Paul Hogan (Actor)
Born: October 08, 1939 in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales
Best Known For: Crocodile Dundee.
Early-life: Hogan was born in Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, on 8 October, 1939. He went on to become a rigger working on the Sydney Harbour Bridge before rising to fame in the early 1970s after an interview on A Current Affair. Hogan followed this with his own comedy sketch program The Paul Hogan Show, which he produced and wrote. The series, which ran for 60 episodes between 1973 and 1984, was popular both in his native country and in the UK, and showcased his trademark lighthearted but laddish ocker humour.
Career: He became a bona fide international star thanks to the mainstream success of Crocodile Dunee, which he wrote and starred in. That paved the way for other US-based projects, like Almost an Angel, Flipper and Lightning Jack, as well as two Crocodile Dundee sequels. For many years he appeared on British TV in advertisements for Foster's Lager, in which he played an earthy Australian abroad in London.
Quote: On becoming so famous: 'I've only got a couple of years left, then my hair will fall out, my chest will have gone grey, my belly will stick out and I'll have varicose veins. I'll revel in that (fame) for a couple of years - let ladies paw me in the street - then I'll go back to (TV) comedy again.'
Trivia: He reportedly turned down the lead male role in Ghost to star in Almost an Angel.
