His father, a musical arranger and composer, died when he was five, leaving his mother, a dancer, to raise five children alone. Money was scarce, and he and his siblings did household chores and the shopping while their mother did odd jobs to make ends meet. He then spent several years touring the country in various productions, and gaining experience in films and TV, with small roles in such projects as A Day Out, QB VII, and Upstairs Downstairs. Since then, he's appeared in The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Holcroft Covenant, David Copperfield, Love in a Cold Climate, and The King's Speech. He's also dabbled in producing.
Quote: 'I hope I carry on both acting and producing in the future. I was never good at sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring, so I've tended to go out and stir the pudding.'
