Born: July 30, 1939 in New York
Best Known For: His success in the 1970s.
Early-life: Peter Bogdanovich was born on July 30, 1939, in New York. His father was a Serbian artist, his mother came from a wealthy Austrian family. They fled Europe to escape from the Nazis. Bogdanovich originally wanted to be an actor and trained with famous teacher Stella Adler before tackling several professional roles on stage and TV. Career: Bogdanovich continued his journalism career, but also began making his own films after working for legendary low-budget producer and director Roger Corman. Bogdanovich's breakthrough came with 1968's Targets, in which he also appeared alongside Boris Karloff. Three years later, The Last Picture Show became a critical and commercial success. What's Up Doc and Daisy Miller followed, but he hasn't had a major hit film since 1976's Nickelodeon. He continues to act, cropping up in such TV series as Bella Mafia, The Sopranos and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Quote: 'You get luck in pictures, and most of the time it's bad luck.'
Trivia: Bogdanovich has written several books chronicling his friendships with actors and directors.
