Early-life:
Nigella Lucy Lawson was born on January 6, 1960, to politician Nigel Lawson and Lyons Corner House heiress Vanessa Salmon. She had three siblings, Horatia, Dominic - who went on to be editor of The Sunday Telegraph - and Thomasina, who died of breast cancer in 1993. She also has two half-siblings from her father's second marriage. Nigella attended Godolphin and Latymer and Westminster schools, before graduating from Oxford University with a degree in medieval and modern languages.
Career:
Lawson started out in publishing before becoming a journalist. She wrote How to Eat in 1998 and appeared on Nigel Slater's Real Food Show, after which she was snapped up to front two series of Nigella Bites and one run of Forever Summer with Nigella for Channel 4. She's also penned a number of books to accompany the programmes, and several others including How to Be a Domestic Goddess, which caused controversy among feminists. Her talk show failed to win over critics or the public, but she enjoyed further culinary success with Nigella Feasts, which aired in the US. She was back in Blighty for Nigella Express and many other series, including her Italy-inspired show, Nigellissima.
