Early-life:
Born Kaya Rose Humphrey on March 13, 1992 in Haywards Heath, West Sussex to Katia Scodelario and Roger Humphrey. Kaya's parents divorced when she was a child and her mother brought her up in London. She subsequently adopted the Scodelario surname.
Career:
With no previous acting experience, Scodelario was cast in the first series of teen drama Skins as Effy Stonem. After two seasons where she slowly gained prominence, Scodelario became the lead actress in the third and fourth seasons. She made her film debut with a small part in Moon (2009) and then went on to appear in Clash of the Titans (2010), play Catherine Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights (2011) and play the title character in The Truth About Emanuel (2013). She reprised her role as Effy in 2013 for Skins Fire, which was part of the final series of Skins. During the same year, she played Anna Salter in the Channel 4 mini-series Southcliffe. Since then, Scodelario has played the lead female character Teresa in the Maze Runner films, the lead character of Kelly in Tiger House (2015) and Carina Smyth in Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge (2017).
