Early-life:
Zachary David Alexander Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California, on October 18, 1987 to David and Starla. His family later moved to Arroyo Grande, California. He has a brother, Dylan. Zac's first taste of acting was in school productions. He began taking singing lessons and performed in the likes of Gypsy, Little Shop of Horrors and The Music Man. In 2002, Zac made his first appearance on TV in an episode of Firefly.
Career:
Efron's early credits include guest roles in ER, The Guardian and CSI: Miami. He had a recurring role in the drama Summerland. His big break came in 2006 when he played Troy Bolton in the Disney TV movie High School Musical. In the same year, he was cast in Hairspray (2007). High School Musical 2 followed in 2007 and it attracted more than 17.2 million viewers on its first showing in America. A year later, Efron played the lead role in Me and Orson Welles. Efron reprised his role in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, which was released in cinemas in 2008. Since then, he has focused on films and starred in 17 Again (2009), New Year's Eve (2011), The Paperboy (2012) and Neighbours (2014).
