Tom and Kate Baker and their 12 children are enjoying a summer holiday together at their lakeside cabin before the last of the kids flies the nest. All is well until Tom realises arch-rival Jimmy Murtaugh and his family are staying nearby, and even though the youngsters are having fun, the fathers succumb to increasingly frequent displays of one-upmanship. Early-life: Born Stephen Glenn Martin on August 14, 1945, in Waco, Texas, but was raised in Inglewood, California. His father was an estate agent and aspiring actor. While still in high school he worked in a magic shop at Disneyland, and did stand-up routines at local club Knott's Berry Farm. He also became an accomplished banjo player. Steve began writing and performing comedy with a girlfriend, but when they split up, concentrated on studying philosophy at university; he later switched to theatre before dropping out altogether.
Career: Martin began writing for various shows in the 1960s, and won an Emmy for his work on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. His stand-up career took off in the 1970s, with best-selling albums and hit tours, but he gave it up in 1982 to concentrate on movies. His first big film hit was 1979's The Jerk, which he followed with The Man with Two Brains, Roxanne, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, LA Story, Parenthood, Father of the Bride and Bowfinger. Away from films, Steve has written a number of books, including a memoir, Born Standing Up, and the novella Shopgirl. He collaborated on an album with Edie Brickell that was released in 2013. Martin also regularly plays banjo alongside various artists.

Eugene Levy (Actor) .. Jimmy Murtaugh
Born: December 17, 1946 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Best Known For: Playing Jim's Dad in the American Pie movies.
Early-life: Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on December 17, 1946, Eugene attended McMaster University in Ontario, where he was vice-president of a student film group.
Career: In 1983, Levy was part of the cast of Canadian sketch comedy Second City Television, where he won two Emmy Awards for writing. He established his credentials as a comedy character actor in a number of films before his big break came in 1999, when he was cast as Jim's Dad in American Pie. He is the only actor to have appeared in all eight of the American Pie films. He has also starred in Best of Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2004), Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005), For Your Consideration (2006), and Goon (2011).
Quote: 'At the end of the day, even if my part is a bit goofy, the key thing is that I'm doing what I love to do, and that's to make people laugh.'
Trivia: Levy has won a number of Canadian Comedy Awards, and in 2004 he was awarded a Grammy for his work on A Mighty Wind.

Best Known For: Lizzie McGuire.
Early-life: Hilary Erhard Duff was born in Houston, Texas, on September 28, 1987 to Susan and Robert. From a young age, Hilary and her older sister Haylie were encouraged by their mother to take acting, singing and ballet classes. To further their interest in acting, the Duff sisters moved with their mother to California in 1993. They soon began landing parts in commercials. Hilary's first major role was playing Wendy in Casper Meets Wendy, a straight-to-video release in 1998.
Career: Duff's breakthrough came in 2000 when she landed the title role in the Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire. The hugely popular series made Duff a household name. Her first big film role came in 2003 when she was cast opposite Frankie Muniz in Agent Cody Banks. In the same year, she starred in The Lizzie McGuire Movie and popular family comedy Cheaper by the Dozen. Since Lizzie McGuire ended in 2004, Duff has starred in Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005), Gossip Girl, Community, Raising Hope and Two and a Half Men. Away from acting, Duff has had a successful recording career and she has co-authored novels with Elise Allen.

Early-life: Piper Lisa Perabo was born in Dallas on October 31, 1976 to Mary and George. Her surname originates in Germany, the home of her paternal grandfather's family. Piper is the eldest of three children and she grew up in Toms River, New Jersey. She earned a theatre degree at Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University. She caught the attention of a casting director when she accompanied her then-boyfriend to an audition.
Career: Perabo relocated to New York, where she studied acting at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club. It wasn't long before she landed her first role, in Marc Levin's comedy Whiteboyz (1999). A year later, she played an FBI agent in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. Roles followed in Coyote Ugly (2000), Slap Her, She's French (2002), Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) and its 2005 sequel, The Prestige (2005) and Beverly Hills Chihuahua (2008). More recently, she starred in Looper (2012). She made the move into TV in 2010 when she began playing CIA Agent Annie Walker in Covert Affairs.

Born: April 26, 1977 in New York
Best Known For: Playing the Man of Steel in Smallville.
Early-life: Thomas John Patrick Welling was born on April 26, 1977 in Putnam Valley, New York. His father was an executive for General Motors, while his mother was a housewife. He has two older sisters, and a younger brother, Mark, who is also an actor. Tom loved sport as a youngster, and after graduating from college, took a job in the building industry before being discovered by a model scout in 1989.
Career: Welling moved to Manhattan and over the course of two years, gained widespread attention for his modelling work. However, by 2000, he had tired of the business and relocated to Los Angeles, where he decided to become an actor. He started out with adverts and appearances in music videos, but it was his role in the drama series Judging Amy, in which he played the much younger love interest of the leading lady, that he hit the big time. In 2001, he took the lead in Smallville, and since then has enjoyed the show's small-screen success. He has also appeared on the big screen in Cheaper by the Dozen and its sequel, and the horror remake The Fog.
