Season 1, Episode 1

Drama from the pen of Sally Wainwright. Catherine Cawood is the sergeant on duty when accountant Kevin Weatherill enters her police station to report a crime - the kidnapping of his boss's daughter. Although he originally came up with the plan as a way of paying for his children's private education, he eventually backed out. However, his partner is dangerous local drug kingpin Ashley Cowgill - and he has gone ahead with the plot anyway. The case hits a nerve for Catherine, who has lost her own daughter and is determined to bring the captors to justice. Sarah Lancashire stars, with Steve Pemberton, Joe Armstrong, James Norton, Siobhan Finneran and George Costigan

Sarah Lancashire (Actor) .. Catherine Cawood
Born: October 04, 1964 in Oldham
Best Known For: Playing Raquel in Coronation Street.
Early-life: Born on October 4, 1964, in Oldham, Lancashire. Her father was scriptwriter Geoffrey Lancashire, who penned more than 100 episodes of Coronation Street in the 1960s. She has three brothers (one of whom is her twin), and claims to have had an idyllic childhood, growing up in a rambling Victorian home. She trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and on graduating took work in bars to make ends meet.
Career: Lancashire's first professional job was with the Manchester Library Theatre; she then spent four years teaching drama at Salford University. She made her Coronation Street debut in 1987 with a walk-on part, returning in 1991 to play Raquel Wolstenhulme - the role that made her a star. She quit five years later, and became one of the most sought-after actresses in British TV appearing in such series as Where The Heart Is, Clocking Off, Seeing Red, The Glass, Chambers, Rose and Maloney, The Birthday Girl, The Rotters' Club, Doctor Who, and All the Small Things. Through much of 2011, Lancashire starred on the West End stage in Betty Blue Eyes, a musical comedy based on the film A Private Function. She's since collaborated with writer Sally Wainwright on hit TV series Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley.
Quote: 'When I left drama school I thought, 'For the rest of your days, Sarah, you're going to be a second income.' I assumed I'd never have my name on a mortgage.'
Trivia: In 2014, she won a Bafta for her performance in Last Tango in Halifax.
Steve Pemberton (Actor) .. Kevin Weatherill
Born: September 01, 1967 in Blackburn
Best Known For: The League of Gentlemen and Benidorm.
Early-life: Steve James Pemberton was born on September 1, 1967, in Blackburn, Lancashire. He first realised he wanted to be an actor while still at school, and his first role was playing Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank at the Chorley Little Theatre - although he admits he was the only boy who auditioned. Following his A levels, he gained a Theatre Arts degree from Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, where he met Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss who, along with Jeremy Dyson, became The League of Gentlemen.
Career: Pemberton began his professional career on stage, but suffered a setback when he had a heart attack at the age of 25 while working in Germany. He went on to feature in Ken Russell's Alice in RussiaLand in 1995, but it was The League of Gentleman that was his first major success, first on radio, then on TV and film. He also appeared in the remake of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), Gormenghast, Shameless, The Life and Death of Peter Sellers and Blackpool. The latter co-starred David Tennant, and the duo were reunited in 2008 for a two-part Doctor Who adventure. Other projects include the Woody Allen film Match Point, Lassie, Psychoville, and Benidorm.
Quote: On his favourite League of Gentlemen character: 'I miss Pauline from the job centre the most. It was scary when I put on the costume and the wig and the lips. It was like being possessed.'

Career: After An Education, Norton had a number of theatre roles, including appearances in Posh at Royal Court Theatre, That Face at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and a touring production of Journey's End. He then went on to get parts in a number of films, including Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (2012), Rush (2013), Belle (2013) and Northmen: A Viking Saga (2014). He has also had a number of roles in TV, including as Henry Alveston in Death Comes to Pemberley, Andrei Bolkonsky in War and Peace, Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley and Sidney Chambers in Grantchester.
