The host rings in the new year in the company of Tom Hiddleston, who is set to return as spy Jonathan Pine in the second series of The Night Manager. Also appearing are Oscar-winner Laura Dern and comic actor Will Arnett, who are starring together in Is This Thing On?, inspired by the life of comedian John Bishop. Owen Cooper, the young star of TV phenomenon Adolescence, also joins the host, while triple Oscar-nominee Carey Mulligan and comedian Tim Key discuss their part in feelgood British hit The Ballad of Wallis Island. Graham Norton (Host)
Born: April 04, 1963 in Dublin
Best Known For: His double entendres and cheeky chat show.
Early-life: Born Graham William Walker on 4 April, 1963, in Dublin. Studied English and French at Cork University and came top in his exams before dropping out after his second year to join a commune in San Francisco. Later arrived in Britain to study at the Central School of Drama in London. Initially wanted to play serious parts, but realised he was better at making people laugh and concentrated on comedy.
Career: Started as a stand-up comedian, presented short-lived game show Carnal Knowledge and appeared on Father Ted. Got his big break in 1997 presenting The Jack Docherty Show while the regular host was on holiday. Norton won Best Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards, beating Docherty who had been nominated for the same plaudit. In 1998, he landed his own chat show, So Graham Norton, and started the production company, So Television. He signed a multi-million-dollar contract to host an American version of his chat show, The Graham Norton Effect, before moving to the BBC in 2004, presenting programmes including Strictly Dance Fever and The Bigger Picture. Since then, his star has gone into orbit, fronting endless musical reality shows, resurrecting his chat show, and recently taking over as the voice of Eurovision.

Tom Hiddleston (Guest)

Best Known For: Playing Loki in the Thor movies.
Early-life: Thomas William Hiddleston was born in London on February 9, 1981 to Diana and James. He has two sisters, Emma and Sarah. He was raised in Wimbledon and later in Oxford. He boarded at Eton College and went on to study at Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge. In his second term at Cambridge, he performed in a production of A Streetcar Named Desire. He furthered his acting training at Rada, graduating in 2005.
Career: Hiddleston made his small-screen debut in the 2001 TV movie The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. A year later, he starred in the TV movie The Gathering Storm. After graduating from Rada, he made his film debut in Unrelated (2007). He is best known for playing the character Loki in the Thor movies and in The Avengers (2012). His other film credits include Archipelago (2010), Midnight in Paris (2011), War Horse (2011) and Muppets Most Wanted (2014). He won an Olivier Award in 2008 for his role in Cymbeline.

Best Known For: Jurassic Park
Early-life: Laura Elizabeth Dern was born in Los Angeles on February 10, 1967. The second daughter of actors Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd _ her older sister had tragically drowned at the age of 18 months a year before Laura was born. After her parents split in 1969, her father would often take her to work with him, hoping that if she saw how boring film-making really was, she wouldn't want to be a movie star. But after making uncredited appearances in White Lightning and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore alongside her mother during the early 1970s, she decided to become an actress.
Career: Her official film debut was in the 1980 film Foxes, which also starred Jodie Foster, but her big break came five years later when she played a blind girl in Mask. She went on to appear in David Lynch films Blue Velvet (1986) and Wild at Heart (1990) and in 1991 received an Oscar nomination for her role in Rambling Rose, which co-starred her mother. The following year she won a Golden Globe for her role in the TV movie Afterburn, and in 1993 starred in the blockbusting Jurassic Park. Her recent credits include TV movie Recount, Everything Must Go (2010), Little Fockers (2010),The Master (2012), and TV series Enlightened.

Will Arnett (Guest)

Best Known For: Arrested Development.
Early-life: William Emerson Arnett was born in Toronto on May 4, 1970 to Edith and Emerson. He took theatre classes at school and he was encouraged by his mother to pursue an acting career. In 1990, he relocated to New York to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Career: Arnett began landing guest spots in a number of TV shows, including Sex and the City, Boston Public, The Sopranos, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Will & Grace. His big break came in 2003 when played George Oscar `Gob" Bluth II in the sitcom Arrested Development. He went on to star on the big screen in Let's Go to Prison (2006), Blades of Glory (2007), Semi-Pro (2008) and When in Rome (2010). His TV credits also include Running Wilde, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, Up All Night, 30 Rock and The Millers. He has lent his voice to a number of projects, including Ratatouille (2007), Horton Hears a Who! (2008), Monsters vs Aliens (2009), Despicable Me (2010), The Nut Job (2014) and The Lego Movie (2014).

Early-life: Carey Hannah Mulligan was born in Westminster, London, on May 28, 1985. Her father is a hotel manager and her mother is a university lecturer. She has an older brother, Owain. Her father's work took her family to Germany when she was three and she was eight when she moved back to England. Her first taste of acting was in the chorus during her brother's school production of The King and I when she was six. Several years later, a dinner event for aspiring actors held by Julian Fellowes and his wife Emma led to Carey catching the attention of a casting assistant. From this, Carey was invited to audition for a role in Pride & Prejudice (2005); she successfully landed the role of Kitty Bennet.
Career: Other TV work followed with roles in Bleak House, The Amazing Mrs Pritchard, Agatha Christie's Marple, Waking the Dead and a standout performance in an episode of Doctor Who. An Academy Award nomination for her role in An Education (2009) elevated her to the world stage and she has never looked back. Since then she has starred in a number of independent and big-budget films, including Public Enemies (2009), Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010), Never Let Me Go (2010), Drive (2011), Shame (2011), The Great Gatsby (2013) and Inside Llewyn Davis (2013).
