Alexander Armstrong (Host)
Born: August 14, 1970 in Rothbury, Northumberland
Best Known For: The Armstrong and Miller Show.
Early-life: Alexander Henry Fenwick Armstrong was born in Northumberland on March 2, 1970. His father is a distant relative of Ralph Richardson, and an appearance on Who Do You Think You Are? showed him to be a direct descendent of William the Conqueror. Alexander was a gifted pianist as a child but was nervous about featuring in concerts. At Cambridge University, he performed with the Footlights entertainment troupe, where he was the comedy partner of Spooks creator David Wolstencroft.
Career: Armstrong made his film and TV debuts in 1994 in There's No Business and A Breed of Heroes. He was introduced to Ben Miller in 1996 and their subsequent success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe led to their first sketch series in 1997; they've worked together a number of times since on various projects. Armstrong played the lead in short-lived sitcom Beast. He has also appeared in Birthday Girl (2001), I Saw You, TLC, Saxondale, Life Begins, The Trial of Tony Blair, Mutual Friends, Woody Allen's Match Point (2005) and Scoop (2006). Armstrong was the voice of supercomputer Mr Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures, appeared in the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special and has presented the BBC game show Pointless since 2009. In recent years, he has also voiced Danger Mouse in the revival of the animated series and presented Rome's Invisible City, Land of the Midnight Sun and Don't Ask Me Ask Britain.
Quote: "Offers come up all the time, and I'm getting better at saying no to things, and just picking the things that amuse me."
Trivia: In 2010, he won a Bafta TV Award for The Armstrong and Miller Show.
Gethin Jones (Co host)
Born: February 12, 1978 in Cardiff
Best Known For: Blue Peter.
Early-life: Born Gethin Clifford Jones in Cardiff on February 12, 1978. His mother is a violin teacher and his father a headmaster; he has an older sister called Mererid. Welsh is his first language and he is an accomplished musician - he plays the violin and piano. During his time at Manchester Metropolitan University, Gethin was captain of the university's rugby team and in his final year, he was offered trials by Sale RFC.
Career: Jones' first foray into TV came at S4C when he began presenting children's programmes such as Popty, Mas Draw and Uned 5. His big break came in 2005 when he became the 31st Blue Peter presenter. During his three and a half years on the show, he flew with the Red Arrows, fought as a samurai warrior in Japan, and played the violin at the Proms with the BBC Philharmonic. He raised money for Sport Relief in 2008 by climbing the four highest peaks in the UK. He has since established himself as a presenter on a number of programmes, including BBC Young Musician of the Year, The National Lottery: Big 7, Soccer Aid, Cwis Meddiant, Sell Me the Answer, and Daybreak. In 2007, he participated in Strictly Come Dancing, finishing third with partner Camilla Dallerup. He has also appeared in pantomime and played the narrator in a production of The Rocky Horror Show.
Quote: "What Blue Peter did to me as a person was ridiculous. It pushed me to the limits and I didn't know what my limits were."
Trivia: Jones was an Olympic torchbearer in the torch relay before the 2012 London Olympics. Away from TV, he likes to play football, tennis and golf. He was briefly engaged to singer Katherine Jenkins.
