Early-life:
Alastair James Hay Murray was born in Stewkley, Buckinghamshire, on May 10, 1968. He wasn't interested in showbusiness as a child - he attended Bedford School as a boarder, where he claims to have led a sheltered life and was only allowed to watch TV once a week. He later studied modern history at St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and began performing as part of the university's famous Revue.
Career:
Murray's big break came when he was asked to compere Harry Hill's Pub Internationale act at the Edinburgh Festival in 1994. It was there he created his bigoted, sexist and aggressive Pub Landlord character. He's since toured in that guise several times, most notably in 2001, when his stint in London earned him an Olivier Award. Murray has also appeared on TV with Hill, starred in Time Gentleman Please, featured in 2004's Hell's Kitchen, hosted the Discovery Channel's Al Murray's Road to Berlin and had an acclaimed An Audience With... programme in 2005. Other TV projects include Al Murray's Multiple Personality Disorder and Compete for the Meat quiz on the channel Dave.

Rebecca Front

Early-life:
Rebecca Louise Front was born in Stoke Newington on May 16, 1964. She comes from an artistic family - her father is an artist, her mother writes children's stories and her brother Jeremy writes (he and Rebecca often write together, most notably Radio 4's Incredible Women). Rebecca knew she wanted to act from the age of six or seven. After leaving school, she studied at St Hugh's College, Oxford, where she began performing with the Oxford Theatre Group.
Career:
Front's comedy career took off with the Radio 4 show The Bobo Girls, the second series of which was produced by Armando Iannucci, with whom she's worked with numerous times since, most notably on The Thick of It. Other comedy projects include On the Hour, The Day Today, Absolute Power, The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, The Spa and various Alan Partridge projects. Front has also dabbled in drama, with roles in The Rotters' Club, Kavanagh QC, Lewis, Jonathan Creek, and Humans.

Julia Sawalha

Early-life:
Born in 1969 in London, the daughter of Roberta and Nadim Sawalha. She was named after her grandmother, a Jordanian businesswoman. She is of Jordanian, British, and French Huguenot ancestry. She was born into an acting family: her father Nadim is a well-known stage and screen actor and sister Nadia a presenter and actress. Julia became interested in acting at a young age, and landed her first break when she was chosen to star on the children's TV series Press Gang.
Career:
She moved into comedy with a starring role in Absolutely Fabulous in 1992, and followed up this near-iconic role with parts in Martin Chuzzlewit, Kenneth Branagh's movie In the Bleak Midwinter and Lydia Bennet in the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. In 2000, she had the major vocal role in Nick Park's animated caper Chicken Run, and she landed another significant part when she became the female lead in Jonathan Creek. Since then, she has favoured classic roles, winning rave reviews in Cranford and Lark Rise to Candleford.
