Early-life: Born Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPiere on May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California. Her father was Armenian, her mother part Cherokee. Her sister, Georganne, was once married to Reservoir Dogs star Michael Madsen. During her teens, Cher worked as a backing singer to help finance acting studies, during which she met producer Phil Spector. She fell in love with Sonny Bono, Spector's studio assistant and PR man, prompting them to record together as Caesar and Cleo.

After divorcing Sonny she concentrated on movies. In 1987, after acclaimed performances in Silkwood, Mask, The Witches of Eastwick, and Suspect, she won a Best Actress Oscar for Moonstruck. Cher has continued to enjoy a successful recording career and continues to act in such movies as Tea with Mussolini, Stuck On You and Burlesque.

Trivia: Cher supports the Get A-Head Charitable Trust.
Celine Dion (Actor)
Born: March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec
Best Known For: The song My Heart Will Go On, from Titanic.
Early-life: Céline Marie Claudette Dion was born on March 30, 1968, in Charlemagne, Quebec. She is the youngest of 14 children. During her childhood, she enjoyed singing with her brothers and sisters in the small club owned by their parents. At the age of 12, she composed a song in French and sent a demo tape to a record company, where it was picked up by manager Rene Angelil.
Career: In 1983, Dion became the first ever Canadian to receive a gold disc in France. Five years later, representing Switzerland, she won the Eurovision Song Contest. Her first English language album Unison was released in 1990, and a year later, she recorded the theme tune to Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Her 1996 disc Falling into You sold more than 25 million copies, while in 1998, she scored an international hit with the Oscar-winning song My Heart Will Go On from the film Titanic. After taking a break in 1999, she returned to performing in 2002, released a new album, A New Day Has Come, and in 2003 signed a multi-million dollar deal to appear at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas for three years.
Quote: "I guess it all depends on your nature. Some people can't stand being alone. I love solitude and silence. But when I come out of it, I'm a regular talking machine. It's all or nothing for me."
Trivia: Dion has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide.
Elton John (Actor)
Born: March 25, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex
Best Known For: His long music career.
Early-life: Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Pinner, Middlesex, on March 25, 1947, the son of a Royal Air Force trumpeter. He won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music aged 11 - but quit shortly before graduating to join band Bluesology. A conflict of interests with the latter caused arguments and Dwight left shortly before meeting lyricist Bernie Taupin. Dwight changed his name to Elton Hercules John in 1968.
Career: John's first solo album flopped in 1969, but its follow-up and the single Your Song were hits. Rocket Man in 1972 marked the beginning of an incredible run of success - 16 straight Top 20 hits (15 of which went Top 10). He has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. In 1994, he won an Oscar for Can You Feel the Love Tonight, from Disney's The Lion King. A version of Candle in the Wind became the world's best-selling single, raising more than £20million for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. He has collaborated with Bernie Taupin on more than 30 albums, and continues to record and tour.
Quote: "I think people should be free to engage in any sexual practices they choose. They should draw the line at goats, though."
Trivia: Profits from his singles go to the Elton John Aids Foundation. He was knighted in 1998.
