Born: July 30, 1971 in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada
Best Known For: His short-lived marriage to Drew Barrymore.
Early-life: Michael Thomas Green was born in 1971 in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada. He developed a passion for comedy at an early age, making his friends laugh. He honed his skills at college by performing stand-up, before going on to study at the University of Ottawa, where he hosted a radio show and released a rap album. After graduating, he began making The Tom Green Show for an Ottawa public access cable channel. Although he says his parents hoped he would one day get a proper job, he admits they were very supportive and allowed him to broadcast the show from their basement.
Career: The Tom Green Show became a hit and was picked up by a national channel, The Comedy Network. In 1998, MTV took notice and began airing the show in America, where his outrageous antics won him a huge fan base. The series came to an end the following year. In 2000, the comedian was diagnosed with testicular cancer and he turned his experiences into an MTV show, The Tom Green Cancer Special, to raise awareness about the condition. He has since starred in films including Superstar, Road Trip and Charlie's Angels, although Freddy Got Fingered, which he co-wrote, directed and starred in, flopped in 2001. He returned to MTV for several months in 2003 with The New Tom Green Show. He started making rap music again in 2005 returned to doing stand-up comedy in 2010.
Quote: On Freddy Got Fingered: "I pitched the studio the idea that I would direct the film and they said, 'Sure.' Probably the biggest mistake they ever made..."
Timo Vuorensola (Director)
