Early-life:
Born Darren Christopher Graham on July 17, 1968, in Colchester, Essex. He was raised on a council estate. In his teens he played truant from school and by the age of 14 he was travelling to London, where he would earn money playing snooker. He changed his surname to Day and began performing as a stand-up comedian and singer, until his parents' marriage broke up when he was 17. He put his showbusiness ambitions on hold and took a job on a building site so he could help support his mother and younger sister.
Career:
Later, he relaunched his career, managed by Peter Powell. In 1993 he was chosen to replace Phillip Schofield in Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. This led to parts in more musicals, including productions of Summer Holiday and Grease. He released an album and broke into TV, presenting Don't Try This At Home and You Bet! but tabloid interest in his love life overshadowed his achievements. At 28 he began taking drugs, but has kicked the habit. Since then he's appeared in Doctors, I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! and short film Cannibalism: A New Taste in Style. In January 2016, he entered the Celebrity Big Brother house.
