Robert De Niro (Actor) .. David `Noodles' Aaronson
Born: August 17, 1943 in New York
Best Known For: His films with Martin Scorsese.
Early-life: Born Robert De Niro Jr on August 17, 1943, in New York to artists Virginia and Robert De Niro Sr. They divorced when he was three. De Niro studied at the Little Red School House and the High School of Music and Art, but left high school at 16 to study acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory and the American Workshop - he'd been hooked on becoming an actor after playing the Cowardly Lion in a school production of The Wizard of Oz at the age of 10.
Career: De Niro made a handful of films in the 1960s and early 1970s, but it wasn't until 1973's Bang the Drum Slowly and Mean Streets (his first collaboration with Martin Scorsese) that his career took off. He received an Oscar for The Godfather Part II a year later and was nominated Academy Awards for Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter, and took home his second Oscar for Raging Bull. The King of Comedy, Once Upon A Time in America, Brazil, The Mission, Angel Heart and The Untouchables followed. Over the past few decades, De Niro has made crowd pleasers such as Cape Fear, Casino, Heat, Meet the Parents and Analyze This, as well as directing A Bronx Tale and The Good Shepherd. He gave a fabulous comic performance in the fantasy movie Stardust, before starring alongside fellow big-screen icon Al Pacino in cop thriller Righteous Kill. His more recent films have included Silver Linings Playbook and The Family.
Quote: 'I think Hollywood has a class system. The actors are like the inmates, but the truth is they're running the asylum.'
Trivia: De Niro has also been instrumental in the revival of Manhattan's TriBeCa district; not only has he invested in the area, he helped found its film festival in 2002.
James Woods (Actor) .. Max Bercovicz
Born: April 18, 1947 in Utah
Best Known For: Appearing in a string of hard-hitting dramas
Early-life: James Howard Woods was born in Utah on April 18, 1947. He was raised in Warwick, Rhode Island, and graduated from Pilgrim High School in 1965. James went on to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, before heading to New York to pursue his acting career. He appeared in a string of theatre productions before making his TV debut in the movie All the Way Home in 1971.
Career: Landed bit parts in The Way We Were and The Choirboys. However, it was 1979 drama The Onion Field that brought him to the attention of many critics. High-profile projects including Videodrome, Once Upon a Time in America and Salvador followed, and the latter earned him an Academy Award nomination. Woods then proved he had a gift for comedy in 1991 offering The Hard Way, and gave stunning performances in Casino, Nixon and Contact. More recently, he has appeared in Shark, Coma and Ray Donovan.
Quote: 'The Press is like a big bass. You just stick a hook in their mouth and they'll take it.'
Trivia: He has voiced characters in a number of video games, including Kingdom Hearts and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Elizabeth McGovern (Actor) .. Deborah
Born: July 18, 1961 in Evanston, Illinois
Best Known For: Once Upon a Time in America, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Downton Abbey.
Early-life: Elizabeth Lee McGovern was born on July 18, 1961, in Evanston, Illinois. She has a sister, Cammie, who's a novelist, and a brother called Monty. Their father was a university professor, and their mother a high-school teacher. The family moved to Los Angeles when their father landed a position at UCLA. She began acting at high school, during which she was spotted by an agent who urged her to join the prestigious American Conservatory Theatre. She studied at the Juilliard School of Dramatic Art in New York, but dropped out to make her movie debut.
Career: McGovern's first film was Robert Redford's Oscar-winning directorial debut Ordinary People in 1980. She followed that with an Academy Award nomination in 1981's Ragtime. She also appeared in Sergio Leone's acclaimed Once Upon a Time in America in 1984. Despite this early promise, her career faltered. Her most memorable film roles since have come in She's Having a Baby, The Handmaid's Tale, A Shock to the System, The Wings of the Dove and The House of Mirth; she also starred in the first series of the BBC's 1999 adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel. She returned to the spotlight in 2010 when she starred in the hugely popular ITV drama Downton Abbey, playing Cora, Countess of Grantham. Away from acting, McGovern is the frontwoman of the band Sadie and the Hotheads.
Quote: On alternative career choices: 'I probably would have become a vet, or I might have lived on a ranch somewhere and raised horses, or I might have become more serious about painting, or I might have worked at Burger King.'
Trivia: McGovern was once engaged to Sean Penn. In 1992, she married British film director and producer Simon Curtis.
Tuesday Weld (Actor) .. Carol
Treat Williams (Actor) .. Jimmy O'Donnell
Burt Young (Actor) .. Joe
Joe Pesci (Actor) .. Frankie
Born: February 09, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey
Best Known For: Goodfellas and My Cousin Vinny.
Early-life: Italian-American Joe was born in 1943, in Newark, NJ, and first broke into entertainment as a child actor and by the mid-50s was starring on the series Star Time Kids. He released a record under the stage name of Joe Ritchie titled Little Joe Sure Can Sing, and was also playing guitar with several bands.
Career: Pesci's first film role was as an uncredited dancer in Hey, Let's Twist! (1961) but then he had to wait another 15 years for a minor part in The Death Collector (1976). His work in the second film was seen by Robert De Niro, who convinced director Martin Scorsese to cast him in the epic boxing film Raging Bull (1980), which really got him noticed in Hollywood. He played with buddy De Niro again in Once Upon a Time in America (1984), nearly stole the show as con man Leo Getz in Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) and scored a Best Supporting Actor Oscar playing the psychotic Tommy DeVito in Goodfellas. His comedic talents shone again in the mega-popular Home Alone (1990), and he put in terrific performances as co-conspirator David Ferrie in JFK (1991) and the title character in My Cousin Vinny (1992). After a brilliant turn in 1995's Casino, he has only taken the occasional role, despite having plenty of offers.
