Early-life:
Charlotte Lucy Gainsbourg was born on July 21, 1971 in London to English actress and singer Jane Birkin and French actor and singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg. Due to her parents' fame for their work and media attention for their turbulent relationship, Charlotte's childhood was highly publicised. She is the half-sister of Lucien, Natacha and Paul on her father's side and, on her mother's side, actress Lou Doillon and fashion photographer Kate Barry.
Career:
Gainsbourg made her film debut in the French film Paroles et Musique (1984). Cement Garden (1993) was the first English-speaking film she appeared in. Since then, she has played parts in Jane Eyre (1996), 21 Grams (2003) and The Science of Sleep (2006). She has also worked in Lars Von Trier's films Antichrist (2009), Melancholia (2011) and Nymphomaniac (2013). Besides acting, Gainsbourg has a singing career. She released her first album in 1986, with her father Serge, and released her next three albums more than 20 years later.
