Early-life:
Katherine Marie Heigl was born in Washington, DC, on November 24, 1978, to parents Paul, an accountant, and Nancy, a personnel manager. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut, where she grew up with her three siblings, John, Leigh and Jason. When she was nine, a visiting aunt took some photos of Katherine, or Katie, as she is known to her family. The pictures were sent to a modelling agency, who were impressed enough to sign her up.
Career:
After appearing in various magazine and TV commercials, Heigl made her screen debut in 1992 film That Night. The acting bug bit, and only two years later she was cast in My Father the Hero, alongside French icon Gerard Depardieu. More roles followed, including Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, Disney drama Wish Upon a Star, and horror flick Valentine. She's since been busy with both films, TV and modelling work, with her most notable achievements coming thanks to being cast as Isabel Evans in sci-fi series Roswell in 1999, before winning the part of Dr Izzie Stevens in top-rated medical drama Grey's Anatomy. She's since enjoyed movie success with Knocked Up and 27 Dresses.
