Early-life: Thomas Alan Smith Rosenthal was born in London on January 14, 1988, the son of TV producer Christine Smith and sports presenter Jim Rosenthal.

Career: In 2011, Rosenthal began starring in Channel 4 comedy Friday Night Dinner alongside Simon Bird. His other TV credits include Plebs, Breathless and Broadchurch. When he is not acting, he is performing stand-up.

Quote: 'I still get petrified before I go on stage. I actually get worried if I'm not nervous beforehand.'

Born: November 28, 1985 in Rotherham

Best Known For: Playing Grumio in the sitcom Plebs.

Early-life: Ryan Oliver Sampson was born in Rotherham on November 28, 1985. He attended Wales High School in Rotherham, where he appeared in school productions. He made his TV debut in 2003 in Wire in the Blood. Roles followed in the TV movie In Denial of Murder, Heartbeat and Holby City.

Career: Sampson's first break came in 2007 when he starred alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst, Celia Imrie and Dani Harmer in BBC sitcom After You're Gone. He has also made guest appearances in Doctor Who, Fresh Meat and Dates. He has had recurring roles in The Work Experience, Up the Women and Undercover. He is perhaps best known for playing Grumio in the ITV sitcom Plebs.

Early-life: Born Sarah-Doon Mackichan in London in August 1962. She went on to study at Manchester University's Department of Drama. She made her TV debut in the 1986 sketch comedy Five Alive.

Career: Specialising in comedy roles, Mackichan has appeared in Brass Eye, Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Alan Partridge, The Comic Strip Presents…, and Nathan Barley. She is best known for starring in Channel 4 sketch series Smack the Pony alongside Fiona Allen and Sally Phillips. On the stage, she has appeared in Joe Orton's farce Loot, Boeing Boeing, and Jumpy. She has also featured in a number of shows on Radio 4, including Doon Your Way, and The Nick Revell Show. More recently, she has starred in Plebs, Toast of London, and Psychobitches.

Quote: 'I don't have a fear of appearing ugly or stupid if it serves the piece.'

Trivia: In 2003, Mackichan came fourth in the charity singing contest Comic Relief Does Fame Academy.

Best Known For: Appearing in a number of sitcoms.

Early-life: Jonathan Huw Sweet was born in 1985 in Nottingham. He was educated at local independent school Nottingham High School before he went on to study English at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He met writing partner Joe Thomas here and they were both members of the Footlights drama club. Jonny graduated with a first and shared a flat with Joe Thomas and Simon Bird before the three of them had their big break in comedy and TV.

Career: Sweet performed solo stand-up shows, and shows with Thomas, at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He got his break into TV when he played prime minister David Cameron in spoof documentary When Boris Met Dave. He had guest roles in such sitcoms as The Inbetweeners and Off the Hook and also appeared in the sketch show Pete and Dud: The Lost Sketches. Sweet created and starred in period sitcom Chickens, alongside Bird and Thomas. He also appeared in Him & Her, starred in police comedy drama series Babylon and created, wrote and starred in Together. More recently, he starred in the sitcom Loaded as Ewan.

Quote: 'My biggest indulgence is self-criticism. It is lame and pointless and actually takes a lot of time and effort and I'm very good at it.'

Trivia: He won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best newcomer in 2009.

Simon Callow (Actor) .. Victor

Born: June 15, 1949 in London

Best Known For: Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Early-life: Simon Phillip Hugh Callow was born on June 15, 1949, in London. His parents separated when he was two years old and he was raised by his mother and grandmother. He spent time at the London Oratory Grammar School, and also had a stint on the African continent, between the ages of nine and 12. His mother, who had once enjoyed an affluent lifestyle, attempted to cover up the family's poor economic status by making sure her son's diction was perfect.

Career: Following spells at Belfast's Queen's University and London's Drama Centre, Callow worked in the Old Vic's box office after being recommended for the post by Laurence Olivier. Acclaimed stage roles followed, as did several small parts in such TV shows as The Sweeney and Carry On Laughing! He had the lead in 1984 sitcom Chance in a Million, and made his film debut the same year in Amadeus. Since then he's continued to appear regularly on stage and TV. His most notable movies include A Room with a View, Postcards from the Edge, Shakespeare in Love, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and The Phantom of the Opera. He was also a judge on the show Popstar to Operastar in 2011.

Quote: 'People expect me to be constantly merry, and I'm not. Sometimes I'm quite melancholy. I have an in-built sense of regret about things.'

Trivia: He has written biographies of Oscar Wilde, Charles Laughton and Orson Welles.
