Early-life: Stephen Daniel Mulhern was born in Minehead on April 4, 1977 to Maureen and Christopher. He has two older brothers and a younger sister. He started to learn about magic when he was 14 and his first break as an entertainer came when he performed his magic show at Butlins when he was 17. It led to him being offered a job as a Redcoat at Minehead. His first taste of TV began in 1998 as a CITV presenter. He went on to co-host Finger Tips with Fearne Cotton and Naomi Wilkinson, children's show Tricky TV and Holly & Stephen's Saturday Showdown with Holly Willoughby.
Career: Mulhern moved on to more adult fare in 2006 when he hosted ITV2 spin-off Dancing on Ice: Defrosted. Since then, he has been involved with ITV2 spin-off Britain's Got More Talent, game show Magic Numbers, The Big Quiz, Big Star's Little Star and Sunday Side Up. Since 2013, he has presented a revived version of ITV game show Catchphrase. He has also appeared in a number of pantomimes. Lesley Garrett (Contestant)
Born: April 10, 1955 in Thorne, South Yorkshire
Best Known For: Trying to bring opera to the masses.
Early-life: Lesley was born in Thorne, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on April 10, 1955. She was raised in a ramshackle cottage. Her dad, who had a musical streak, was a railway signalman and later an infant school headmaster. Her family often held sing-songs around the piano. On leaving school, she spent six years as a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where her contemporaries included Annie Lennox, and made ends meet posing as an artist's model.
Career: Garrett's early career included stints at the Welsh National Opera and Opera North before she joined the English National Opera, where she has enjoyed regular work ever since. The singer has also notched up a string of hit records and performances at sell-out concerts across the world. Her career was once threatened when she lost her voice, but she has bounced back to huge acclaim. Regular appearances on TV, including in the first series of Strictly Come Dancing and her own show, Lesley Garrett Tonight, have made her a household name.
Quote: "My family - not just Peter and the children, but my whole family - are like fuel for me. I'm not a one-woman show. I've got a lot of people around me and a lot of love."
Trivia: She was awarded a CBE in 2002.
Jools Holland (Contestant)
Best Known For: His brilliant musicianship.
Early-life: Born Julian Miles Holland on January 24, 1958, in Blackheath, London. He has twin younger brothers, Richard and Christopher. He comes from a working-class background; his father, Derek, had stints as a mini cab driver and chef, but was keen on art, music and literature. Jools' parents split when he was 11, and he spent time living with his maternal grandparents, who let him play their piano. He claims that everyone in his family could sing and play, but that he's the first of them to turn it into a career.
Career: Holland's professional career began as a session musician, but in 1974 he became a founding member of the pop band Squeeze, but he left in 1981 to pursue a solo career. He also hosted TV show The Tube with Paula Yates from 1982 to 1987. He also rejoined Squeeze from 1985 to 1990, since when he's concentrated on his solo career with the 18-piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. In 1992 Holland began hosting Later... with Jools Holland, a hugely successful series that showcases musical talent from across the globe - it's still enormously popular, as is its New Year spin-off Jools' Annual Hootenanny.
Quote: "The piano has disappeared from working-class family life, which is a shame. It's associated with the middle classes now."
Trivia: The design of Holland's recording studio, Helicon Mountain, was inspired by the 1960s TV series The Prisoner, of which he is a massive fan.
