Doris Day (Actor) .. Calamity Jane
Born: April 03, 1922 in Cincinnati
Best Known For: Her roles in classic musicals.
Early-life: Born Doris Mary Ann Von Kappelhoff on April 3, 1922, in Cincinnati. Her father was a music teacher, her mother a housewife; they divorced when she was a child. She began dancing at an early age and planned to become a ballerina until an injury sustained in a car accident ended her dream. Instead, she turned to singing, and began performing with local bands. She changed her name to Day around 1940. Later, her agent persuaded her to take a screen test at Warner Bros, who signed her.
Career: Day's first film was 1948's Romance on the High Seas. Although she did appear in darker projects from time to time, she will always be best known for such movies as Tea for Two, On Moonlight Bay, Young at Heart, Calamity Jane, That Touch of Mink, Please Don't Eat the Daisies and Move Over, Darling. She famously made three films with Rock Hudson - Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers and Lover Come Back - and even worked on The Man Who Knew Too Much with Alfred Hitchcock. Day also had a hugely successful recording career, and fronted her own TV series.
Quote: 'I want to smile and I want to make people laugh. And that's all I want. I like it. I like being happy. I want to make others happy.'
Trivia: She lives in Carmel, California, and is dedicated to animal welfare.
