Early-life:
Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi, to building contractor Jamie Parnell Spears and former teacher Lynne Irene Bridges. Her first passion was gymnastics, and she performed in local dance revues and in her Baptist church choir. At eight, Britney auditioned for the Disney Channel's New Mickey Mouse Club. Despite being too young to join the series, one of the show's producers introduced her to a New York agent. She spent three summers at New York City's Professional Performing Arts School, and also featured in several off-Broadway productions.
Career:
At the age of 11, Spears was finally hired to appear on the Disney Channel's New Mickey Mouse Club, which also welcomed superstars-in-waiting Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. She became a global sensation in 1998 when her debut single ...Baby One More Time, taken from the namesake album, became a huge success. Follow-up album Oops!... I Did It Again was also hugely successful, not least because of the title track. She went on to appear in the film Crossroads, scored two more UK chart-toppers in 2004 with Toxic and Everytime. In recent years her musical career has been overshadowed by her increasingly erratic behaviour. She has continued to record and her eighth studio album will be released in December 2013. Spears also had a brief stint as a judge on the US version of The X Factor.
