The documentary goes behind the scenes of two historic homes in the south of England. The National Trust work to preserve the gardens of Sissinghurst Castle in Kent in the same style that previous owner Vita Sackville-West planted them back in the 1930s. Twelve miles away, the Jacobean manor Bateman's was the sanctuary of Rudyard Kipling until his death in 1936. The plan is to preserve his personal possessions to tell not just the story of Kipling the author, but also the man and father
