Season 12, Episode 5

The sewers tackle the wide world of sport. In the Pattern Challenge, they hit the beach to create the classic men's swimming shorts. The Transformation Challenge sees yet another Sewing Bee first, as the remaining eight sewers are divided into pairs for the first ever team challenge - working together to create outfits from recycled windsurf sails. Finally, the contestant aim for a strike as they use free motion embroidery and applique to personalise their made-to-measure bowling shirts

Patrick Grant (Judge)
Born: May 01, 1972 in Edinburgh
Best Known For: Being a judge on The Great British Sewing Bee.
Early-life: Patrick was born in Edinburgh on May 1, 1972 to James and Susan. During his time as a boarder at Bernard Castle School, he represented Scottish rugby union at U18 and U19 level. Any chance of a glittering rugby career was cut short by a shoulder injury. He went on to study material sciences at the University of Leeds. His course included a year spent at the University of Orleans. After graduating, he returned to the United States and spent time working as a ski instructor, a nanny, a landscape gardener and a model agent.
Career: After returning to Britain in 1995, Grant embarked on a career in marketing. In 2005, he raised the funds needed to buy struggling Savile Row bespoke tailor Norton & Sons. By 2011, Norton's customer base had increased from around 20 clients in 2005 to several hundred. Grant is best known to the general public for his work as a judge on the BBC series The Great British Sewing Bee.
Quote: On his role at Norton & Sons: 'My main job is greeting customers and discussing exactly what they want before my cutters and tailors do all the hard work.'
Trivia: In 2013, he was made an Honorary Professor in Business at Glasgow Caledonian University.
