Early-life:
Brandon James Routh was born on October 9, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up in nearby Norwalk. As a child he was a huge Superman fan, and read every Man of Steel comic he could get his hands on. After attending the University of Iowa, he honed his craft at the Norwalk Theatre of Performing Arts. His first professional acting role was in 1999 TV series Odd Man Out, and he went on to guest star in the series Gilmore Girls and Undressed.
Career:
Routh graduated from US soap opera One Life To Live, and went on to appear in TV hits Cold Case and Will & Grace. He also popped up in the projects Oliver Beene, Awesometown, Karla and Denial. In 2006 he played the title role in blockbuster Superman Returns. He has worked steadily ever since in hit-and-miss films such as Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Life is Hot in Cracktown, Table for Three, Unthinkable and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. On TV he had a recurring role on NBC action comedy Chuck.
