Born: February 11, 1962 in Kennett, Missouri
Best Known For: Her hit All I Wanna Do.
Early-life: Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born in Kennett, Missouri, on February 11, 1962. Her father was a lawyer who worked on many civil rights cases and once prosecuted the Ku Klux Klan for ballot-rigging. He also played trumpet in a swing band, along with her mother, who was a vocalist. They encouraged their daughter when she started playing the piano at the age of six, and Crow went on to gain a degree in classical music from Missouri State University. She taught in elementary schools in St Louis after graduation and played in cover bands. After splitting with her boyfriend in 1986, she moved to Los Angeles with her $10,000 savings, determined to become a professional musician.
Career: Crow worked as a session musician and collaborated with Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and George Harrison, and spent 18 months as a backing vocalist on Michael Jackson's Bad tour before winning a contract in her own right. She spent $250,000 recording an album, but wasn't happy with the results and asked her record company not to release it - they agreed. She then started work on Tuesday Night Music Club instead, which was released in 1993, but didn't make much of an impression until the following year when the record company suggested releasing the track All I Wanna Do as a single. It reached number two in the American charts and number four in Britain - the album subsequently went multi-platinum. She subsequently had hits with the songs Everyday Is a Winding Road and the Bond theme Tomorrow Never Dies. Her album, 100 Miles from Memphis, was released in 2010.
Quote: 'Having cancer and having a relationship fall apart, those are things you really want to keep private, but instead the combination of the two made for a press frenzy.'
Trivia: She has sold more than 50 million records worldwide.

Kris studied literature at Pomona College before winning a scholarship to Oxford. While in England, he was given a record deal, but couldn't release any recordings as he had already signed a contract with an LA manager. He later became a captain in the US Army, but quit to pursue a career in music, getting his big break when Johnny Cash recorded his song Sunday Morning Coming Down.
Career: Janis Joplin and Sammi Smith had number ones with his songs Me and Bobby McGee and Help Me Make It Through the Night. In 1972, Kris scored a hit in his own right thanks to Why Me, and went on to make several successful albums. Born: January 17, 1971 in Romeo, Michigan
Best Known For: His relationship with Pamela Anderson.
Early-life: Born Robert James Ritchie on January 17, 1971, in Romeo, Michigan. His sister, Jill, is an actress. He claims to have hated small-town life, but found an escape in rap and breakdancing. Inspired by the Beastie Boys' efforts to fuse rap with rock music, he decided to record his own songs, eventually producing a demo in 1988. That led to his debut album, Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast, in 1990.
Career: Following a tour with Ice Cube, Ritchie was dropped by his record label. He later formed his backing band, Twisted Brown Trucker. After making ends meet by selling bootleg recordings of his gigs, he and the group were signed by Atlantic Records in 1998, enjoying their first real taste of success with the album Devil Without a Cause. In 2000, Ritchie remixed his earlier flops as The History of Rock. A year later he released Cocky, following it up with a self-titled LP which proved hugely popular. Ritchie has also cropped up in the films Joe Dirt and Biker Boyz.
Quote: 'If it looks good, you'll see it. If it sounds good, you'll hear it. If it's marketed right, you'll buy it. But if it's real you'll feel it.'
Trivia: He lent his voice to animated flick Osmosis Jones.
