Early-life:
Sharon Marguerite Gless was born on May 31, 1943, in Los Angeles. After catching the acting bug, she attended the prestigious Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Following graduation, she pursued her acting dream and in 1969 Gless became the last-ever "contract player" at Universal Studios. A year later, she made her TV debut in the movie Night Slaves.
Career:
Gless paid the rent with a series of TV offerings, including The Longest Night, McCloud, Cool Million, Ironside, Centennial and Hard Hat and Legs. In 1982 she became the third actress to play TV copper Christine Cagney in cult series Cagney & Lacey. The show turned her into a household name and paved the way for other projects, including several spin-off TV movies, as well as The Star Chamber, The Trials of Rosie O'Neill, the US version of British drama Queer As Folk and political drama The State Within. She is currently starring in American drama Burn Notice. Stage roles have included Watch on the Rhine, Chapter Two, Misery, The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial, and The Vagina Monologues.
