Career: Encouraged by a girlfriend, he made his stage debut as a stand-up comic in 1989. Foxx changed his name to something androgynous after learning that women were first on the bill at open-mic nights in comedy clubs. By 1991 he was a star in the US thanks to TV show In Living Color. His first film was 1992's Toys. Since then he's had his own, self-titled show, and featured in movies The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Any Given Sunday, Ali and Collateral. In 2005, he won an Emmy Award for his guest role on Will & Grace. Three years later, he won a Tony Award nomination for his role in the Broadway play Mauritius. In 2013, he won an Emmy Award for his work on Boardwalk Empire. He has also had a recurring role in Nurse Jackie. He starred opposite Sally Hawkins and Cate Blanchett in Woody Allen's acclaimed film Blue Jasmine (2013). His other film credits include Chef (2014), Annie (2014), Spy (2015), Danny Collins (2015), Ant-Man (2015) and Daddy's Home (2015). He plays the lead role in HBO drama Vinyl.
