Racing car driver and engineer Carroll Shelby is lured out of retirement during the 1960s, in a period where the sport is dominated by Italian companies. Ford Motors are hoping to revive their flagging fortunes by launching a racing division and securing a high-profile win at the prestigious Le Mans 24-hour race. Shelby takes up the challenge of headlining the plan to build a revolutionary new race car, but courts conflict within the company by recruiting unpredictable, short-tempered British driver Ken Miles to take the wheel. Early-life: Born Matthew Paige Damon on October 8, 1970, in Boston, Massachusetts. He has a brother who is now an artist and sculptor. Their father is a retired investment banker, their mother is a professor of education. They divorced in 1973, and the boys moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, with their mother. Damon met fellow actor Ben Affleck when he was 10 and they have been friends ever since.
Career: Damon dropped out of Harvard to concentrate on acting. He struggled to get roles and made his film debut in 1988's Mystic Pizza. Playing a troubled soldier in 1996's Courage Under Fire got him noticed. A year later, Good Will Hunting, based on a story by Damon and Affleck, became a major success and won them Best Screenplay Oscars. Since then, Damon has appeared in several hits, including Saving Private Ryan, Dogma, The Talented Mr Ripley, Stuck On You, The Departed, True Grit, Invictus and the Ocean's Eleven and Bourne franchises. He is now among the world's most bankable stars.

Early-life: Christian Charles Philip Bale was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on January 30, 1974. He has three older sisters. His father was a commercial pilot, his mother a circus dancer. Performing runs in the family - his grandfather was a comedian and children's entertainer, while his great uncle was an actor and John Wayne's stand-in for two movies. Christian was raised in England, Portugal and California, and made his acting debut in a cereal commercial in 1983.
Career: At the age of 10, Christian made his West End debut in The Nerd, opposite Rowan Atkinson. He was hand-picked from 4,000 auditionees to take the lead role in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun in 1987. Unlike many child stars, he has successfully made the transition to serious grown-up actor. Films since include Little Women, The Portrait of a Lady, Velvet Goldmine, American Psycho, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Shaft, Reign of Fire, Equilibrium and The Machinist. His status soared after playing Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins and its sequels. Early-life: Joshua Lucas Easy Dent Maurer was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on June 20, 1971 to Michele and Don. Josh's interest in film was sparked at the age of eight when he watched a movie being made close to where he lived. He moved with his family more than 30 times before he was 13. He decided against going to college so that he could pursue an acting career.
Career: Lucas moved to Los Angeles and showed early promise in the 1993 TV movie Class of '61 and Alive (1993), but he was then forced to settle for a succession of minor TV roles. He relocated to New York and began developing his acting skills in various stage productions. His career received a boost in 2000 when he was cast in the films You Can Count on Me and American Psycho. Since then, he has appeared in A Beautiful Mind (2001), Sweet Home Alabama (2002), Hulk (2003), Poseidon (2006), Glory Road (2006), The Lincoln Lawyer (2011), Red Dog (2011) and J Edgar (2012).
