Joaquin Phoenix (Actor) .. Ray Elwood
Born: October 24, 1974 in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Best Known For: Being River's brother.
Early-life: Born Joaquin Rafael Bottom on October 24, 1974, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He's the third of five children. The family were part of the Children of God cult, but left in 1978 and settled in the US. They also changed their name to Phoenix, to celebrate their new start. Around the same time, Joaquin became known as Leaf, to fit in with the earthy monikers of his siblings: River, Rain, Summer and Liberty.
Career: The Phoenix children began landing acting roles at a young age. Leaf's first role was on TV in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in 1982. His film debut was in 1986's Space Camp. He also appeared in Parenthood in 1989 before changing his name back to Joaquin and dropping out of acting to travel in South America with his father. To Die For thrust him back into the spotlight in 1995. He's worked constantly since then, in such projects as 8MM, The Yards, Quills, Buffalo Soldiers, Signs, The Village, Ladder 49, and Her. He has received Oscar nominations for The Master, Walk the Line, and Gladiator.
Quote: 'If you can come in, say your lines brilliantly, and be thinking 'What's for lunch?' the whole time you're doing it and it works for the audience, who cares?'
Trivia: Phoenix is a spokesperson for PETA.
Ed Harris (Actor) .. Col Wallace Berman
Born: November 28, 1950 in New Jersey
Best Known For: Being the best actor not to yet win an Oscar.
Early-life: Born in New Jersey, in 1950. His father Robert was a singer with the dance-band leader Fred Waring and made many TV and radio appearances. Growing up, Ed preferred sport to performing - his prowess on the American football field won him a scholarship to Columbia University. However, he eventually realised that he didn't want to be a professional athlete and dropped out to join his parents, who had relocated to Oklahoma. That's where he first started appearing in local theatre productions, and realised he wanted to be an actor. He returned to college, this time to study drama.
Career: He initially worked as a house-painter to make ends meet, but acting jobs soon started flooding in, mainly in theatre and TV. He bagged his first leading movie role in the cult film Knightriders in 1981, but it was his performance as John Glenn in the acclaimed The Right Stuff that marked him out as a rising star. In 1995, another fact-based drama about astronauts, Apollo 13, earned him his first Oscar nod. He's been nominated three more times for The Truman Show, Pollock (which he also directed) and The Hours. His other notable films include The Abyss, The Rock, Nixon, A Beautiful Mind, A History of Violence and Man on a Ledge.
Quote: 'I don't feel like I've sacrificed my career for my family or vice-versa. It's been a pretty good balancing act.'
Trivia: Harris has directed a number of theatre productions.
Anna Paquin (Actor) .. Robyn Lee

Best Known For: Starring in the X-Men films and True Blood.
Early-life: Born Anna Helene Paquin on July 24, 1982, in Winnipeg, Canada, the youngest daughter of Kiwi teachers Brian and Mary Paquin. Anna moved to New Zealand with her family when she was four years old. In 1991, Anna accompanied her sister Katya to an open audition for a part in Jane Campion's The Piano and, despite having no experience as an actress, beat more than 5,000 other hopefuls to the part.
Career: Released in 1993, The Piano was a worldwide success and won three Oscars. Paquin was left speechless when she beat the likes of Emma Thompson and Winona Ryder to win the Best Supporting Actress gong at the 1994 Academy Awards. Paquin then relocated to Los Angeles and won roles in Jane Eyre, She's All That, Amistad and the X-Men films to further boost her reputation. Since 2008, she has starred as telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse in US vampire series True Blood, for which She won a Golden Globe in 2009.
