Early-life:
Julian Barratt Pettifer was born on May 4, 1968 in Leeds. He studied at the University of Reading. Julian chose to use his middle name as his surname to avoid getting confused with reporter Julian Pettifer.
Career:
Barratt appeared in black comedy TV series Asylum in 1996 and as various characters in the sketch show Unnatural Acts, which he was also a writer for, in 1998. He shot to prominence when he played Howard Moon in comedy series The Mighty Boosh. He also composed all the music for the series. Barratt appeared in comedy series Garth Marenghi's Darkplace in 2004 and Nathan Barley in 2005. More recently, he has appeared in TV film Treasure Island (2012) and A Field in England (2013), as well as episodes of White Heat, Being Human and Flowers. He also co-wrote and starred in the film Mindhorn (2016). Away from acting, Barratt has narrated a number of documentaries, including The Tube, The Route Masters: Running London's Roads and The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway.
