Early-life: Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles on November 11, 1974. His mother was a legal secretary and his father is a comic book writer. Early-life: Kate Elizabeth Winslet was born on October 5, 1975, in Reading. Acting is in her blood. Both her parents, Roger and Sally, tread the boards, her maternal grandparents ran the Reading Repertory Theatre, and an uncle appeared in the original West End production of Oliver! Kate's two sisters also act; her brother is the only sibling not to enter showbiz. Kate stole the show in a series of plays before the age of 11 and she studied at Maidenhead's Redroofs Theatre School.
Career: Winslet started out on TV, with roles in Casualty and The Dark Season, but it was her film debut in Peter Jackson's acclaimed 1994 drama Heavenly Creatures that set her on the road to success. She gained her first Oscar nod for Sense and Sensibility a year later, and stayed with period pieces for Jude and Hamlet. In 1997 came James Cameron's Titanic, which gained her another Academy Award nomination. Since then, Winslet has featured in an array of films, including Hideous Kinky, Enigma, Iris, The Life of David Gale, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Finding Neverland. She finally won an Oscar for 2008's The Reader. Her recent films include Labor Day and Divergent.

Billy Zane (Actor) .. Cal Hockley

Best Known For: Playing bad boy Caledon Hockley in Titanic and dating Kelly Brook.
Early-life: William George Zane Jnr was born on February 24, 1966, in Chicago to parents Thalia and William Snr, who were enthusiastic amateur thespians. His older sister, Lisa, is also an actress. His grandfather changed the family name from the original Greek Zanikopolous to what we know now. Billy studied acting at the Harand Camp of Theatre Arts, landing his first big-screen role as one of Biff Tannen's pals in Back to the Future, reprising the role for the 1989 sequel.
Career: Zane got his big break in that same year, when he landed the role of psychotic Hughie Warriner in the chilling flick Dead Calm, opposite Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman. A year later, he won his first leading role in the indie sci-fi thriller Megaville, before joining the cast of ensemble piece Memphis Belle. Since then, he has gone on to accumulate a vast number of roles, from playing John Justice Wheeler in TV smash Twin Peaks, to the villainous Caledon Hockley in blockbuster Titanic. In recent years, Zane has turned his hand to producing as well as starring in movies, and demonstrated his singing and dancing skills with a turn on Broadway in Chicago. Best Known For: Breaking James Caan's ankles in Misery.
Early-life: Born Kathleen Doyle-Bates on June 28, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, the youngest of three sisters. Her father, Langdon, was a mechanical engineer, while her mother, Bertye, was a housewife. She became hooked on acting at an early age and, after graduating from White Station High School in Memphis, enrolled at Dallas's Southern Methodist University. She originally intended to study English, but opted for theatre instead. Her parents weren't supportive of her career choice at first, but changed their minds after seeing her on stage.
Career: During the 1970s, Bates concentrated on New York stage work. Her first film was 1971's Taking Off, and she continued to work steadily on TV and in movies until her big break in 1990's Misery. She won an Oscar for her portrayal of a psychotic nurse in the production. Bates disrobed for the films At Play in the Fields of the Lord and About Schmidt (which also landed her an Oscar nomination), and won acclaim for Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe and Primary Colors. She's also appeared in Titanic, Dolores Claiborne and The Waterboy. She had a lead role in David E Kelley's American TV legal comedy-drama Harry's Law.

Bill Paxton (Actor) .. Brock Lovett
Born: May 17, 1955 in Texas
Best Known For: His role in Twister.
Early-life: Born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1955. He did well at school, despite suffering from rheumatic fever in the seventh grade, which left him bed-ridden for four months. As a teenager, he and his friends made their own films on a super-8 camera, which gave Bill a taste for acting. At 18, he left Texas for Hollywood, where he got a job as a set dresser for cult director Roger Corman. He made his screen debut in the 1975 movie Crazy Mama before deciding to move to New York to study drama at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.
Career: Paxton returned to Los Angeles, and began winning parts in movies including Stripes, Weird Science and Streets of Fire, as well as making the acclaimed short film Fishheads. During the early 1980s, he struck up a friendship with aspiring director James Cameron, who would go on to cast him in The Terminator, Aliens, True Lies and Titanic. His other notable flim appearances include Predator, Apollo 13, Twister and Spy Kids 2. He reportedly turned down the lead role in The Da Vinci Code to star in the acclaimed American TV series Big Love. On February 25, 2017, Paxton died of a stroke following complications from heart surgery.

Early-life: Bernard Hill was born on December 17, 1944, in Manchester. He caught the acting bug at an early age and went on to hone his craft at Manchester Polytechnic, where he graduated with a theatre diploma in 1970. It took another three years before he made his TV breakthrough in the 1973 play Hard Labour.
Career: Hill went on to become one of British TV's most reliable character actors. The projects I, Claudius, Professional Foul and Pit Strike brought him great acclaim. However, it was Alan Bleasdale's 1980 series Boys From the Blackstuff that made him a household name. It brought him to the attention of director Peter Jackson who considered him for the role of Gandalf, before eventually casting him as King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings movies, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. On stage, Hill has appeared in A View from the Bridge, The Cherry Orchard and Macbeth. His other high profile roles on the big screen include parts in Gandhi, Shirley Valentine, The Bounty, The Ghost and the Darkness, Titanic, The Scorpion King, Wimbledon and Joy Division. On the small screen, he played David Blunkett in A Very Social Secretary to great acclaim.

Frances Fisher (Actor) .. Ruth DeWitt Bukater

Best Known For: Unforgiven and Titanic.
Early-life: Born May 11, 1952, in Millford-on-the-Sea. Her father was a construction engineer who travelled the world with his job, which meant Fisher lived in such far-flung places as Canada, Italy, France and Brazil before settling in Texas, in 1964 where she finished her schooling. A keen actress from an early age, she eventually moved to New York to study with acclaimed teachers Stella Adler and Lee Strasbourg after her divorce in 1972.
Career: Fisher's first professional roles came on the stage. In 1976 she made her TV debut in The Edge of the Night, and stayed with the long-running series for 1981. She also had a spell in soap opera Guiding Light before appearing in her first movie, Heart, in 1997. The films Pink Cadillac, Patty Hearst, and LA Story followed. She also played Lucille Ball in biopic Lucy and Desi: Before the Laughter. Unforgiven was a massive critical and commercial success in 1992, and introduced her to a new set of fans. Since then she's appeared in Titanic, The Lyon's Den, House of Sand and Fog, and Laws of Attraction.

David Warner (Actor) .. Spicer Lovejoy

Best Known For: The Omen, The Man with Two Brains and Titanic.
Early-life: Born on July 29, 1941, in Manchester, he's an only child. He describes his early years as "messy", and claims his parents, who never married, continually vied for his custody. He attended eight different boarding schools and admits to being only an average student. After a teacher persuaded him to appear on stage, Warner realised he wanted to be an actor. He had a series of odd jobs before gaining a place at Rada when he was 17.
Career: Warner gained acclaim with the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Wars of the Roses TV show before landing a major role in the movie Tom Jones in 1963. It paved the way for his first leading part, Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment, in 1965, the same year he won plaudits for his West End performance as Hamlet. Since then, he's made more than 150 TV and film appearances, most notably in Straw Dogs, The Omen, Time Bandits, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Man with Two Brains, Tron, two Star Trek movies and The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse. He returned to Shakespeare in 2005, playing the title role in King Lear at the Chichester Festival Theatre. His later work includes roles in TV film In Love with Barbara, and the dramas Wallander and Mad Dogs.

Early-life: James Francis Cameron was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, on August 16, 1954 to Shirley and Phillip. His family moved to Brea, California, in 1971 when he was 17. After a spell at college, he worked several jobs, including as a truck driver, and wrote in his spare time. He wrote a science-fiction script for a short film called Xenogenesis with two friends and they raised the money they needed to shoot it in 35mm. James went on to work as a miniature-model maker at Roger Corman Studios and found work as an art director on sci-fi movie Battle Beyond the Stars (1980). He did special effects work design and direction on John Carpenter's Escape from New York (1981). He was hired as the special effects director for Piranha II: The Spawning and when the original director left the project, James was given his job, although he was fired during the production.
Career: Cameron's big break came when he wrote and directed The Terminator (1984), which was a box-office success. Made for $6.5million, it made more than $78million worldwide. His next project was Aliens (1986), which was also a box-office hit. His next project, The Abyss (1989), considerably ran over budget but it was another success for Cameron. He returned to the Terminator franchise in 1991 when he directed Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to the lead role and the film was far more popular than the original. Made for $100million, it grossed more than $500million. For his next project, Cameron made the move into comedy when he directed Schwarzenegger in True Lies (1994), another box-office success. Cameron's next film was the most expensive movie ever made at the time but the gamble paid off when Titanic went on to clear more than $2billion at the box office. His next film was bigger in lots of ways. Avatar (2009) had a budget of more than $300million and composed almost entirely of computer-generated animation. It broke several box office records during its initial theatrical run and went on to gross more than $2.7billion worldwide. In 2013, Cameron announced his intention to film three sequels to Avatar simultaneously.
