Born: May 08, 1976 in Llwynypia, Wales
Best Known For: Being a member of pop group Steps.
Early-life: Ian was born in Llwynypia, Wales, on May 8, 1976. From a young age, Ian was a member of the Spotlight and Parc and Dare Amateur theatre groups in Cwmparc. In 1997, after answering an ad in The Stage newspaper, he successfully auditioned for a spot in pop group Steps.
Career: Steps went on to release four studio albums and two compilations and sold more than 20 million records worldwide. After the group disbanded in 2001, Watkins released an album with Claire Richards (of Steps) before focusing on theatre work. In 2006, he made his West End debut playing the lead role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He then trained at the Royal Academy of Music. After graduating, he toured the UK with Joseph. Since then, he has starred in Fame the Musical and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In 2007, he finished fourth on Celebrity Big Brother. Steps reunited in 2011 for a four-part Sky Living documentary. The series followed the group as they embarked on a sell-out 22-date UK tour. In August 2014, he was a participant on BBC One celebrity gymnastics contest Tumble.
Quote: 'People think they can leave a pop band and jump into a musical and you just can't do that. There's a huge discipline that's involved with your craft and your body and your voice.'
Trivia: In 2003, Watkins was voted number six on a Channel 4 poll of 100 Worst Worst Britons We Love to Hate.
