When Eric and Beth put their tree up earlier than usual, they unwittingly kick off the Christmas season in Latimer Crescent. What starts as a labour-saving convenience quickly turns into a flurry of festive activity as their son Ian and partner Gordon, neighbours Colin, Cathy, Christine, Michelle and Alan start to gear up for the holidays in their own unique ways. Arabella Weir (Actor) .. Beth
Born: December 06, 1957 in San Francisco
Best Known For: The Fast Show.
Early-life: Arabella was born in San Francisco on December 6, 1957. Her father was former British ambassador Sir Michael Weir. She has two older brothers, Andrew and Matthew, and a younger sister, Christina. Arabella studied for a diploma in dramatic arts at Middlesex Polytechnic. In the 1970s, she was a backing singer for pub rock band Bazooka Joe. The band featured Stuart Goddard, who became better known as Adam Ant.
Career: Weir's big break came in 1994 when she began playing various roles in BBC sketch comedy The Fast Show alongside Paul Whitehouse, Charlie Higson and John Thomson. The show had a number of catchphrases and the one mostly attributed to Weir was "Does My Bum Look Big in This?" She later used this as the title for a best-selling book. The Fast Show ran until 1997 and returned in 2000 for a one-off special. Weir went on to star in Posh Nosh, Hana's Helpline, Skins and Doctor Who. More recently, she has appeared in one-off drama Two Doors Down, Midomer Murders and House of Fools.

Alex Norton (Actor) .. Eric
Elaine C Smith (Actor) .. Christine
Born: August 02, 1958 in Glasgow
Best Known For: Rab C Nesbitt.
Early-life: Elaine Constance Smith was born in Glasgow on August 2, 1958. She trained to be an actor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. In 1986, she first demonstrated her gift for comedy on the small screen in BBC sketch show Naked Video. She also starred in Scottish sitcom City Lights.
Career: Smith's big break came in 1990 when she began playing Mary Nesbitt in the BBC sitcom Rab C Nesbitt alongside Gregor Fisher. The popular series ran for eight series until 1999. It returned for a one-off Christmas special in 2008, a ninth series aired in 2010 and tenth series followed a year later. It returned for a one-off special in January 2014. Away from Rab C Nesbitt, Smith has starred in Two Thousand Acres of Sky and 55 Degrees North. She has also headlined a number of Scottish pantomimes in Glasgow and Aberdeen, and toured with a number of productions, including Guys and Dolls, Shirley Valentine and Calendar Girls. In 2012, she played Susan Boyle in I Dreamed a Dream, a stage musical she co-wrote with Alan McHugh.

Doon Mackichan (Actor) .. Cathy
Best Known For: Smack the Pony.
Early-life: Born Sarah-Doon Mackichan in London in August 1962. She went on to study at Manchester University's Department of Drama. She made her TV debut in the 1986 sketch comedy Five Alive.
Career: Specialising in comedy roles, Mackichan has appeared in Brass Eye, Knowing Me, Knowing You… with Alan Partridge, The Comic Strip Presents…, and Nathan Barley. She is best known for starring in Channel 4 sketch series Smack the Pony alongside Fiona Allen and Sally Phillips. On the stage, she has appeared in Joe Orton's farce Loot, Boeing Boeing, and Jumpy. She has also featured in a number of shows on Radio 4, including Doon Your Way, and The Nick Revell Show. More recently, she has starred in Plebs, Toast of London, and Psychobitches.
Quote: "I don't have a fear of appearing ugly or stupid if it serves the piece."
Trivia: In 2003, Mackichan came fourth in the charity singing contest Comic Relief Does Fame Academy.
