Early-life:
Born Evan Harold Davis in 1962, in Ashtead, Surrey. His mother was an analyst, his father works in electronic engineering and he has two older brothers. He became interested in finance at a young age and says he found decimalisation "incredibly exciting". He studied economics, politics and philosophy at St John's College, Oxford, where he also edited the student newspaper, and went on to gain a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Career:
After graduation, Evan worked for the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the London Business School's Centre for Business Strategy. He joined the BBC in 1993 as an economics correspondent, and worked on a range of programmes before joining Newsnight in 1997. He became the BBC's economics editor four years later, and in 2004 began presenting the hugely successful series, Dragons' Den. Away from TV, Evan has also written the book Public Spending, co-authored the Penguin Dictionary of Economics, and writes papers for the Social Market Foundation. He was named the Work Foundation's Workworld Broadcast Journalist of the Year in 1998, 2001 and 2003. In 2008, he gave up the position of BBC economics editor to take up a full-time presenting role on Radio 4's Today programme. In September 2014, he became a main presenter on Newsnight. He also hosts The Bottom Line on Radio 4.
