Early-life:
Samuel Peter W. Riley was born on January 8, 1980 in Menston, West Yorkshire to nursery school teacher Amanda and textile agent Andrew. He studied at Malsis School, Cross Hills and at Uppingham School. He was a member of the National Youth Theatre and was turned down by both the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Career:
Riley got his breakthrough when he was cast as Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis in the biopic Control. Following this, he landed roles in Franklyn (2008), Brighton Rock (2010), On The Road (2012) and Byzantium (2012). One of his biggest roles came in 2014 when he played Diaval in Maleficent. More recently, he has played Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) and appeared in Free Fire (2016), as well as TV series SS-GB and Tinkershrimp and Dutch.
