Richard Osman (Host)
Born: November 28, 1970 in Billericay
Best Known For: Pointless.
Early-life: Richard Thomas Osman was born in Billericay on November 28, 1970, but grew up in West Sussex. He was raised by his single mum after his father left home - they didn't see each other for 20 years. Richard studied politics and sociology at Trinity College, Cambridge, where his future Pointless colleague Alexander Armstrong was reading English literature. He claims that one of his proudest moments came when his mum and grandfather watched his graduation.
Career: Osman has worked behind the scenes as an executive producer on a number of TV programmes, including Deal or No Deal, 8 Out of 10 Cats, and 10 O'Clock Live. As the UK creative director of TV production company Endemol, he pitched the quiz Pointless to the BBC. As a way of explaining the rules, he played the co-host during a run-through. He was asked to do the role for real when the show was commissioned. Pointless started on BBC Two in 2009 and was an immediate hit. It quickly made the switch to BBC One. Since being in the spotlight on Pointless, he has made guest appearances on QI, Have I Got News for You and Would I Lie to You? He also guest presented an episode of The One Show alongside Alex Jones.
Quote: "Whenever I turn up to pub quizzes now, I see people going: ‘Urgh, that's the guy who knows everything.'"
Trivia: He is the younger brother of Mat Osman, bassist with Suede, and suffers from nystagmus, a condition that results in uncontrolled movement of the eyes.
Jennie McAlpine (Contestant)
Born: February 12, 1984 in Bury
Best Known For: Playing Fiz in Coronation Street.
Early-life: Born in Bury on February 12, 1984, Jennie's parents separated when she was young. She lived with her father, who encouraged her to take up amateur dramatics when she was eight. As a teenager, she joined the Carol Godby Theatre Workshop. At the age of 13, Jennie came second in a young comedian of the year competition held in London. She went on to spend four years doing stand-up at charity nights, galas and pub nights with her father in Bury.
Career: McAlpine's first TV role was playing Ollie Reynolds' school friend Michelle Morley in Emmerdale from 1999 until 2001. In April 2001, she landed the role of Fiz on Coronation Street, a role she continues to play. She was originally hired for a handful of episodes but her comic timing impressed the soap's producers and they offered her a long-term contract. In 2008, she had a starring role in the one-off Coronation Street: Out of Africa.
Quote: "My dad always encouraged me to be independent - to take advice but do my own thing."
Trivia: McAlpine is a patron of The Thebes Project, a charity that helps deprived children in Egypt. She owns a restaurant called Annies in Manchester city centre with her boyfriend Chris Farr.
Ugo Monye (Contestant)
Joe Pasquale (Contestant)
Born: August 20, 1961 in Grays, Essex
Best Known For: Winning I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
Early-life: Joseph Ellis Pasquale was born in Grays, Essex, on August 20, 1961. His dad, also called Joe, worked in a margarine factory, and his mum was a housewife. As a youngster he always enjoyed performing and being the centre of attention. After leaving school, he took a job in the civil service, before becoming a porter at Smithfield meat market. Joe also did stints in a car plant and on building sites, but it was working as an entertainer in holiday camps at Torquay and Great Yarmouth that helped him develop his comedy style.
Career: Pasquale started entering TV talent shows, and was a runner-up on New Faces in 1987. By his own admission, offers of work didn't flood in, but his live act developed a following, and videos of his stand-up performances sold well. He began making appearances on TV in specials such as He's Pasquale, I'm Walsh, The Joe Pasquale Show and The Crazy World of Joe Pasquale. In 2004, his career received a boost when he won the fourth series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Since then he's recorded an Audience with Joe Pasquale for ITV and hosted The Price is Right. The comedian has also written a musical version of the children's series Rentaghost, and appeared in numerous stage productions, including The Producers. In early 2014, he participated with fellow former contestants in the final series of Dancing on Ice.
Quote: "My dad told me I had to find something I liked doing and then get someone to pay me for doing it. I think I did that."
Trivia: Pasquale supports a number of charities, including Diabetes UK.
