Bouffants, Beehives and Bobs: The Hairdos that Made Britain

A look back at the iconic hairdos people in Britain have flirted with over the past 60 years. From the meringue-like confections of Raymond 'Mr Teasy Weasy' Bessone, via the geometric bob cuts of Vidal Sassoon, to the big-hair heyday of bouffants and beehives - not forgetting the mullet and the 1970s perms. Part of the Timeshift documentary strand

Best Known For: Launching Red or Dead.
Early-life: Born January 19, 1961, in Morecambe, Lancashire. His father was Native American champion wrestler Billy Two Rivers. Among Hemingway's earliest memories are the times he was held aloft in the ring by his dad, and being dressed up as Elvis, a Beatle or Tarzan by his mother. When his father left home to live with infamous Pools winner Viv Nicholson, Hemingway was raised in Blackburn. After gaining 10 O-levels and four A-levels, he earned a geography degree at University College, London.
Career: Hemingway's first love was music. In a bid to raise money to buy equipment for his band, he began selling clothes on Camden market with his then-girlfriend Gerardine. After taking £80 on their first day, they were inspired to set up their own fashion company, Red or Dead, despite neither of them being trained designers. They won the British Fashion Council's Streetstyle Designer of the Year Award three years running, then sold the company. Hemingway has also appeared as a fashion expert on The Big Breakfast and a judge on The Big Art Challenge.
Quote: 'Design should be for everybody. I hate the idea of elitism.'
