Early-life:
Born in 1973 in Iran, the daughter of satirist Hadi Khorsandi, her family was forced to flee her home country for London after the Islamic Revolution following the publication of a satirical poem by her father perceived as being critical of the revolutionary regime.
Career:
Khorsandi began establishing herself as a stand-up comic in the late 1990s, regularly playing The Monday Club at Madame Jo Jo's, The Cosmic and Downstairs at The King's Head. An American tour with her brother, also a stand-up, saw her become popular overseas. Back home, it was hard work and a slot on live at the Apollo that made her a household name. She has appeared on many BBC Radio 4 programmes, including Quote... Unquote, Loose Ends, You and Yours, Midweek, Just A Minute, The Now Show and The News Quiz, as well as BBC TV's Have I Got News For You, while her stand-up tours are hugely popular.
