Early-life:
Kathryn Mary Garraway was born in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, on May 4, 1967. Kate attended Fitzharrys School and spent a year operating a shrink-wrapping machine in a toilet-roll factory before taking up a place at Bath University, where she studied English and History. Following her graduation, she began her broadcasting career with a job at BBC Radio Oxford.
Career:
In 1994, Garraway won a trainee position at ITN, before becoming a reporter and presenter for Central News. That led to jobs with Meridian, BBC News 24 and Sky News. She joined the GMTV team in 2000. She went on to become one of the show's most popular hosts, and has also worked on other series, including Des and Mel, Ultimate Psychic Challenge, Access Hollywood and Too Many Cooks. In 2007, she hit the headlines when she took part in Strictly Come Dancing.
