Born in 1959 in Ontario, Canada. His father was a UN diplomat and Adams grew up in a variety of countries, including Britain, Israel, Portugal, Korea and Japan. Knew from an early age that he wanted to be a musician, but his parents didn't approve. After they split up, he didn't see his dad for 10 years. Joined the band Sweeney Todd, who released an album called If Wishes Were Horses in 1977, but went solo the following year. His first album failed to chart, but his third, Cuts Like a Knife, went platinum in America, and the follow-up, Reckless, established him in the UK. In 1991, his single (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, the theme from the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, sold three million copies in America and spent 16 weeks at number one in Britain. Continued to score hits throughout the 1990s, including a duet with Melanie C, When You're Gone, in 1998, but then took a four-year break. He returned in 2002 with the soundtrack to the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. He continues to record and tour.
