About this Broadcast

-

The 1991 address by the producer and director in which he talks about the achievements of Monitor, the BBC's first TV arts magazine, and reflects on what programme-makers have to learn from those pioneering days. Among the examples used by Burton are films commissioned by Huw Wheldon from Ken Russell and John Schlesinger, two young directors who went on to greater things, and studio interviews with Orson Welles and Ninette de Valois
