The former steeplejack celebrates Britain's houses and palaces, travelling from the grandeur of Hampton Court in west London to a homely terrace in Beamish in Co Durham. He also visits Cragside, Northumberland, one of the first homes to have electric lighting, and helps restore a 15th-century manor in Kent by demonstrating how plaster used to be made
