Rachel Khoo (Presenter)
Born: August 28, 1980 in Croydon
Best Known For: Her Little Paris Kitchen.
Early-life: Khoo was born on August 28, 1980, in Croydon, South London, to an Austrian mother and a Malay-Chinese father. She's described the cuisine of her childhood as featuring Asian food and wiener schnitzel, with the odd roast - but certainly nothing French. She graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London with a degree in Art & Design.
Career: Khoo started her profesional life doing publicity for a luxury fashion brand, but that didn't last long. She became bored so, in 2006, inspired by her passion for food, she enrolled at the famous Le Cordon Bleu in Paris to retrain as a pastry chef, despite not speaking French and having only visited the city once before. Khoo landed a job at culinary bookstore and tea salon La Cocotte. She provided catering for book launches and led cookery classes there too.
Quote: 'You don't need a huge kitchen to create amazing food. Operating in such a small environment makes you a better cook. You have to be organised and you pare everything down to the basics.'
Trivia: Khoo opened a mini-restaurant in her tiny apartment, and published two recipe books before the BBC backed her first TV project.
