Early-life:
Alexandra Imelda Cecelia Ewen Burke was born in London on August 25, 1988. Her mother, Melissa Bell, was a singer with the band Soul II Soul. Alexandra has three siblings, Sheneice, David and Aaron. Her parents split up in 1992. At the age of 12, Alexandra sang on the TV talent show Star for a Night. She was the runner-up to eventual winner Joss Stone. In 2005, Alexandra auditioned for the second series of The X Factor but was deemed too young.
Career:
Burke auditioned again for The X Factor in 2008 and made it through to the live finals. She went on to win the competition, beating Eoghan Quigg and JLS in the final. Her debut single, Hallelujah, became the top-selling single of 2008 in the UK. Her debut album a year later, Overcome, debuted at number one in the albums chart. She continues to record music and headline tours. In 2014, she made her West End debut playing the lead role of Rachel Marron in the musical The Bodyguard. In February 2015, she took The Bodyguard on the road at the start of a nationwide UK tour. She took over the lead role of Deloris Van Cartier in a UK tour production of Sister Act The Musical in 2016.
