Emilia Fox (Actor) .. Dr Nikki Alexander

Best Known For: Silent Witness.

Early-life: Emilia Rose Elizabeth Fox was born on July 31, 1974, in London, to thespians Edward Fox and Joanna David. With so many relatives involved in the entertainment industry, including her uncles James and Robert, and grandmother Angela, Emilia naturally gravitated towards an acting career and made her screen debut in the acclaimed TV version of Pride and Prejudice alongside Colin Firth and her mother Joanna while still a student at Oxford University. Her younger brother, Freddie, has also decided to follow the family tradition. Emilia is also musical - she plays the cello, piano and trumpet.

Career: Since leaving full-time education, Fox has worked consistently on TV, but still found time to tread the boards and appear in movies. Period dramas Rebecca, The Round Tower and the aforementioned Pride and Prejudice brought her fame, but it was the remake of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) in 2000 that made her a household name. In 2002 she starred in Roman Polanski's Oscar-winning The Pianist and has more recently worked with Britain's acting elite in Gunpowder, Treason & Plot, The Virgin Queen, Marple: The Moving Finger, Born Equal, Upstairs Downstairs and Fallen Angel. In 2004 she took over from Amanda Burton as the lead actress in Silent Witness, and has been playing forensic pathologist Nikki Alexander ever since.

Trivia: She is a patron of the environmental and human rights charity the Environmental Justice Foundation.

Born: January 11, 1971 in Swansea

Best Known For: Silent Witness.

Early-life: Tom Ward was born on January 11, 1971, in Swansea, Wales. His father, John Powell Ward, is a poet, while his mother, Sarah, is a farmer. His brother, Tristan, is a solicitor. On leaving school, Ward studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University. While there, he became hooked on acting during a spell in the drama society. He's also represented Great Britain at fencing and enjoys singing, dancing and playing the saxophone.

Career: Ward made his TV debut in a 1990 episode of The Storyteller: Greek Myths. His first film, Lethal Justice, followed a year later, but he didn't become a regular TV presence until the 1995 small-screen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. He's rarely been out of work since, thanks to roles in The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Vanity Fair, Plunkett & Macleane, Warriors, Quills, Anna Karenina and Love in a Cold Climate. Ward has also appeared numerous times on stage, but remains most recognisable for Dr Harry Cunningham in Silent Witness - a part he began playing in 2002.

James Wilby (Actor) .. Matt Gibb

Born: February 20, 1958 in Rangoon, Burma

Best Known For: His performances in Merchant Ivory films.

Early-life: Born in 1958 in Rangoon, Burma (his father was an executive with the British Oxygen Company), but raised in England. He attended school in Cumbria and gained a maths degree from Durham University before studing at RADA. While there he starred in the 1982 film Privileged alongside Hugh Grant and Imogen Stubbs. After graduating he gained experience on stage, which led to the lead role in Ismail Merchant and James Ivory's adaptation of EM Forster's novel Maurice, again opposite Hugh Grant.

Career: After impressing in his breakthrough role, Wilby subsequently appeared in a miniseries based on A Tale of Two Cities, and co-starred with Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins in another acclaimed Merchant/Ivory adaptation of EM Forster, Howards End. Though the rest of Wilby's 1990s movies were not as impressively received, he continued to work regularly, turning up in Immaculate Conception, the First World War drama Regeneration, the children's movie Tom's Midnight Garden, and as the bitter lord of the manor in Ken Russell's TV project Lady Chatterley. Wilby reunited with Ismail Merchant in the producer's directorial effort Cotton Mary. He subsequently appeared among the distinguished ensemble populating Robert Altman's Oscar-winning period piece Gosford Park, Midsomer Murders, Poirot and The Great Train Robbery. He also continues to work on stage.

Quote: 'I am lucky enough to find learning my lines really easy. The trouble is that I can't remember anything else, and as soon as I start preparing for a role, telephone numbers, children's birthdays and the names of favourite wines just fly out of the window. It's a real curse.'

Trivia: In his spare time, he enjoys yachting.

Born: June 30, 1970 in Halifax

Best Known For: Playing Tim Metcalfe in Coronation Street.

Early-life: Joe was born in Halifax on June 30, 1970. He moved to London when he attended the Drama Centre London. In 1992, he made his TV debut in an episode of Between the Lines.

Career: Duttine has made a steady stream of guest appearances in a number of TV series over the years, including Lovejoy, The Buddha of Suburbia, Seaforth, A Touch of Frost, Dangerfield, Dalziel and Pascoe, Silent Witness, New Tricks, Life on Mars and Waterloo Road. For several months in 2010, he played detective Max Carr in Coronation Street. Three years later, he returned to the famous cobbles as a new character, Tim Metcalfe. His theatre credits include playing the lead in a touring version of The Elephant Man.

Quote: 'On stage you don't have the luxury of being in a make-up wagon for hours, you have to create it physically.'

Trivia: He is the nephew of actor John Duttine.

Best Known For: A string of roles.

Early-life: Anastasia was born in London on November 28, 1965. She went on to study acting at London's Drama Centre. In 1992, she made her TV debut in an episode of Red Dwarf. Guest roles followed in The Bill, Jeeves and Wooster, Kavanagh QC, Trial & Retribution and A Dance to the Music of Time.

Career: A constant on the small screen, Hille has also appeared in Cutting It, Hawking, Silent Witness, Lewis, Agatha Christie's Poirot, Foyle's War, Getting On, Prey, Hinterland, The Missing and Not Safe for Work. She received a Bafta nomination for her role in the miniseries The Fear. Her film credits include The Hole (2001), Good (2008), The Awakening (2011), Snow White & the Huntsman (2012) and The Riot Club (2014). On the stage, she has received Olivier nominations for roles in The Master Builder and The Effect. In 2015, she starred alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in Hamlet at the Barbican.

Trivia: At drama school, Hille won second prize at the Ian Charleson Awards, behind Toby Stephens and ahead of Jude Law.
