Best Known For:
The Osbournes.
Early-life:
Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948. He grew up in Birmingham, in a two-bedroom house with his parents and five siblings. He struggled academically, but enjoyed performing and appeared in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. After leaving school at 15, Osbourne worked in a slaughterhouse and as a car-horn tester. He later spent time in prison for not paying a fine after breaking and entering, and assaulting a police officer. While inside, he acquired the OZZY tattoo across his knuckles - and vowed to go straight on release.
Career:
Osbourne sang with several local groups before forming Black Sabbath with guitarist Tommy Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. Their debut album was released in 1970, and they scored a huge hit with Paranoid. Following the death of his father in 1977, Osbourne developed drug problems. The band kicked him out (although they reunited in 2013), and he went solo. His 1980 debut album, Blizzard of Oz, was hugely successful, but he checked into rehab in 1984. He struggled to remain sober for years, admitting in 2013 that he'd fallen off the wagon, but was clean again. He is probably now best known for his family's fly-on-the-wall documentary series The Osbournes, which ran from 2002 to 2005.
