Elton John (Actor)
Born: March 25, 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex
Best Known For: His long music career.
Early-life: Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Pinner, Middlesex, on March 25, 1947, the son of a Royal Air Force trumpeter. He won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music aged 11 - but quit shortly before graduating to join band Bluesology. The group supported American soul acts and backed legendary British musician Long John Baldry. A conflict of interests with the latter caused arguments and Dwight left shortly before meeting lyricist Bernie Taupin. Dwight changed his name to Elton Hercules John in 1968.
Career: John's first solo album flopped in 1969, but its follow-up and the single Your Song were hits. Rocket Man in 1972 marked the beginning of an incredible run of success - 16 straight Top 20 hits (15 of which went Top 10). He has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. In 1994, he won an Oscar for Can You Feel the Love Tonight, from Disney's The Lion King. A version of Candle in the Wind became the world's best-selling single, raising more than £20million for the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. He has collaborated with Bernie Taupin on more than 30 albums, and continues to record and tour.
Quote: "I think people should be free to engage in any sexual practices they choose. They should draw the line at goats, though."
Trivia: Profits from his singles go to the Elton John Aids Foundation. He was knighted in 1998.
Ozzy Osbourne (Actor)
Born: December 03, 1948 in Birmingham
Best Known For: The Osbournes.
Early-life: Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948. He grew up in Birmingham, in a two-bedroom house with his parents and five siblings. He struggled academically, but enjoyed performing and appeared in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. After leaving school at 15, Osbourne worked in a slaughterhouse and as a car-horn tester. He later spent time in prison for not paying a fine after breaking and entering, and assaulting a police officer. While inside, he acquired the OZZY tattoo across his knuckles - and vowed to go straight on release.
Career: Osbourne sang with several local groups before forming Black Sabbath with guitarist Tommy Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. Their debut album was released in 1970, and they scored a huge hit with Paranoid. Following the death of his father in 1977, Osbourne developed drug problems. The band kicked him out (although they reunited in 2013), and he went solo. His 1980 debut album, Blizzard of Oz, was hugely successful, but he checked into rehab in 1984. He struggled to remain sober for years, admitting in 2013 that he'd fallen off the wagon, but was clean again. He is probably now best known for his family's fly-on-the-wall documentary series The Osbournes, which ran from 2002 to 2005.
Quote: "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."
Trivia: He has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
Meat Loaf (Actor)
Born: September 27, 1947 in Houston, Texas
Best Known For: Bat Out of Hell.
Early-life: Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday in 1947 (or 1951, depending on which source you believe) in Texas, and moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to play in local bands and appear in musicals such as Hair and As You Like It. He has told numerous contradictory "official" stories of how he got his stage name. He made his film debut with a memorable role in cult film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). In 1977, he and lyricist Jim Steinman released an operatic rock album called Bat Out Of Hell, the record was huge and has sold 43,000,000 copies worldwide. However, the tour promoting the album took a toll on Meat's voice and left him unable to sing on the follow-up record "Bad For Good".
Career: Meat Loaf stayed quiet through the 1980s, putting out a series of records which never got any airplay or chart position in the US. He appeared in films Out of Bounds (1986) as a pilot, and The Squeeze (1987) with Michael Keaton. But after reuniting with Steinman, he delivered a powerful sequel Bat Out Of Hell II which went to number one in the US and UK. Bat II has now sold an excess of 20,000,000 copies. It is considered one of the biggest musical comebacks in music history. He won a Grammy for the stand-out song I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That). Movie credits include Crazy in Alabama (1999) and Fight Club (1999). He released his latest album, Hang Cool Teddy Bear, in 2010. In a bid to boost sales of the album in America, he agreed to be one of the contestants on the 2011 series of The Celebrity Apprentice.
Quote: "I never fit in. I am a true alternative. And I love being the outcast. That's my role in life, to be an outcast."
Trivia: His favorite place to play concerts is Ireland.
