Born: January 29, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan
Best Known For: Magnum, PI.
Early-life: Thomas William Selleck was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 29, 1945 to Martha and Robert. His family moved to Sherman Oaks, California during his childhood. A talented athlete, Tom attended the University of Southern California on a basketball scholarship. He went on to study acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and was serving as a soldier in the California National Guard when he was activated for the Watts riots in Los Angeles in 1965.
Career: Selleck won small parts in films and TV shows during the 1970s until his big break came in 1979 when he was cast in the lead role in detective series Magnum, PI. The popular series earned him an Emmy and a Golden Globe and it ran for eight seasons, clocking up 162 editions. He went on to star alongside Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg in the box-office smash Three Men and a Baby (1987), had a recurring role in the sitcom Friends during the 1990s and since 2005, he has played lawman Jesse Stone in a series of TV movies based on novels by Robert B Parker. Since 2010, he has played Frank Reagan in police drama Blue Bloods.

Trivia: Selleck turned down the role of Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark to honour the contract he had just signed for Magnum, PI.

Born: February 21, 1946 in Madison, Wisconsin
Best Known For: Cagney & Lacey.
Early-life: Ellen Tyne Daly was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on February 21, 1946, the daughter of actor James Daly and Mary Hope Newell. Her younger brother is actor Timothy Daly. She was raised in Westchester County, New York. She performed in summer stock theatre productions with her family and earned her Equity Card at the age of 15. She went on to study at Brandeis University and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Career: In the 1970s and 80s, Daly made guest appearances in a number of TV shows, including The Streets of San Francisco, Barnaby Jones, Lou Grant, Magnam, PI, and Quincy ME. But she will be best remembered for playing Mary Beth Lacey alongside Sharon Gless's Christine Cagney in police drama Cagney & Lacey. The hugely popular series started in 1982 and ran for seven seasons until 1988. They also reprised their roles in a number of Cagney & Lacey TV movies. Daly had further success in Christy, and Judging Amy. Between Cagney & Lacey, Christy and Judging Amy, she won six Emmys. Away from TV, she won the 1990 Tony Award for her performance in the musical Gypsy.

Trivia: In 2010, Daly performed a cabaret act, Second Time Around, at Feinstein's at Loews Regency, New York City.
