Early-life:
Jane Marie Lynch was born in Dolton, Illinois on 14 July 1960. Her father was a banker and her mother was a housewife. She indulged her lifelong interest in acting when she opted to do a bachelor's degree in theatre at Illinois State University. Jane began appearing in various stage roles while she was studying.
Career:
During the 1990s, Lynch guest starred on a number of TV shows, including Married with Children, 3rd Rock from the Sun and Frasier. Her film breakthrough came with Best in Show (2000), where she played a butch, lesbian dog handler. Despite this, she continued her penchant for making guest appearances on high-profile TV shows. In the early noughties she appeared in The X Files, The King of Queens, Arrested Development, Friends, The L Word and Two and a Half Men. Her next major film role was playing Steve Carell's quirky lust-fuelled boss in The 40-Year Old Virgin (2005). This paved the way for her to appear on the smash-hit TV series Glee as a no-nonsense cheerleading coach. In 2013, she made her Broadway debut in Annie.
