Early-life: David William Duchovny was born on August 7, 1960, in New York to a Scottish teacher mother, Margaret, and Amram, his publicist and playwright father who was of Ukrainian descent. They divorced when he was 11. He has a brother called Daniel. Duchovny earned an English Literature degree from Princeton University and a Masters in the same subject at Yale University. He became a part-time actor to help fund his PhD, but abandoned his studies in 1987 to pursue a show business career full-time.
Career: One of Duchovny's earliest roles was in a beer advert. Before making his debut as Mulder in The X Files in 1993 he was best known as Dennis/Denise, a transvestite FBI agent in cult TV drama Twin Peaks. He also hosted The Red Shoe Diaries series. On the big screen he has starred in Kalifornia, movie versions of The X Files, as well as Return To Me, Evolution, Zoolander, Steven Soderbergh's Full Frontal, Connie and Carla, My Dark Places and House of D. In 2007 he began a seven-year stint alongside Natascha McElhone in US comedy drama Californication. He is due to star in a new, 1960s-set drama called Aquarius, about the police's investigation into cult leader Charles Manson.

Trivia: Duchovny dated Perry Reeves and Sheryl Lee before marrying Tea Leoni in 1997. They have two children, Madelaine and Kyd, but are now separated.
Gillian Anderson (Actor) .. Dana Scully
Born: August 09, 1968 in Chicago
Best Known For: The X Files.
Early-life: Gillian Leigh Anderson was born in Chicago on August 9, 1968. After briefly relocating to Puerto Rico her family moved to London while her father completed a course at the London Film School; they ended up staying for nine years. On their return to the US, young Gillian decided she wanted to be an actress after auditioning for a community play. Following high school, she studied acting at DePaul University's Goodman Theatre and left with a degree in Fine Arts. She moved to New York to pursue her acting dreams.

After settling in Los Angeles, she had a guest appearance in TV series Class of 96, then landed the role of Dana Scully in The X Files. She won an Emmy and Golden Globe for her portrayal of the FBI agent; she's also appeared in two X Files movies. Anderson's other projects include The Mighty, The House of Mirth, The Last King of Scotland, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Bleak House, Great Expectations, The Crimson Petal and the White, and Hannibal. She's also the female lead in the hugely acclaimed BBC Two series The Fall, and contains to appear on stage.
Quote: 'Fame is complicated and definitely overrated. There are perks to it that are unfathomable. But the other aspect is there's little to no privacy at all.'

Jerry Springer (Actor) .. Himself
Born: February 13, 1944 in London
Best Known For: His riotous talk show.
Early-life: Born Gerald Norman Springer on February 13, 1944, in London, where his Jewish-German parents had fled to escape the Holocaust. He has a sister, Evelyn. His grandparents died in Auschwitz. When he was five, the Springers emigrated to America and settled in Queens, New York. He describes his childhood as poor but happy, and he enjoyed being a boy scout. After graduating from high school, he studied law at Northwestern University.
Career: Jerry was an aide to Robert Kennedy during his 1968 presidential campaign, then spent 10 years in Ohio politics. He was forced to resign from a council position in 1974 after becoming embroiled in a sex scandal, but his honesty about the situation paid off and he was re-elected a year later. In 1977, he became Mayor of Cincinnati. His TV career started out on a regional station, but in 1991 he went national with his own chat show. Unfortunately, ratings were disappointing so, three years later, the format was changed to make the show more 'downmarket' - and global success followed. Since then Jerry has made cameo roles in films such as the third Austin Powers movie, hosted America's Got Talent, and made TV programmes in the UK and South Africa.
Quote: 'I would never watch my show. I'm not interested in it.'
Trivia: He inspired the controversial stage hit Jerry Springer: The Opera.
