Simon Callow (Judge)
Born: June 15, 1949 in London
Best Known For: Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Early-life: Simon Phillip Hugh Callow was born on June 15, 1949, in London. His parents separated when he was two years old and he was raised by his mother and grandmother. He spent time at the London Oratory Grammar School, and also had a stint on the African continent, between the ages of nine and 12. His mother, who had once enjoyed an affluent lifestyle, attempted to cover up the family's poor economic status by making sure her son's diction was perfect.
Career: Following spells at Belfast's Queen's University and London's Drama Centre, Callow worked in the Old Vic's box office after being recommended for the post by Laurence Olivier. Acclaimed stage roles followed, as did several small parts in such TV shows as The Sweeney and Carry On Laughing! He had the lead in 1984 sitcom Chance in a Million, and made his film debut the same year in Amadeus. Since then he's continued to appear regularly on stage and TV. His most notable movies include A Room with a View, Postcards from the Edge, Shakespeare in Love, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and The Phantom of the Opera. He was also a judge on the show Popstar to Operastar in 2011.
Quote: 'People expect me to be constantly merry, and I'm not. Sometimes I'm quite melancholy. I have an in-built sense of regret about things.'
Trivia: He has written biographies of Oscar Wilde, Charles Laughton and Orson Welles.
Tom Kerridge (Judge)
Born: July 27, 1973 in Salisbury
Best Known For: Being a chef.
Early-life: Tom was born in Salisbury on July 27, 1973. He has a younger brother. His parents divorced when he was 11. Tom began cooking for himself and his brother after school while his mother was at work. He attended a youth theatre for three weeks and this led to him being cast in a Miss Marple Christmas special. He had further roles in After Henry, The Tomorrow People and Chris Cross, but at the age of 18 he decided to pursue his love of cooking by attending catering college in Cheltenham.
Career: Kerridge's first professional cooking job was as a commis chef at Calcot Manor in Tetbury in 1991. He worked in several other restaurants before joining Rhodes in the Square in 1999 as a sous chef under Gary Rhodes. He spent time in other restaurants before opening his own gastropub, The Hand & Flowers, in 2005. It gained a Michelin star in 2006 and again in 2012. He has since appeared on a number of TV shows in his capacity as a chef, including Great British Menu and Saturday Kitchen. He has also presented his own series, Tom Kerridge's Proper Pub Food and Spring Kitchen with Tom Kerridge. In 2015, he became a co-host on Food and Drink.
Quote: 'Ninety minutes of standing in the rain with my mates watching football is one of the few times I truly get away from cooking.'
Trivia: Kerridge supports Marlow FC.
